7-11 Pizza
 

Just curious - anyone here ever eat one? Part of one? I noticed a sign up in the parking lot at a nearby 7-11, featuring a large 7 meat pizza for $7.99 or so. I figure it is probably no better or worse than a frozen pizza from the supermarket, yet already heated for your midnight convenience. I have no plans to get one, but well, as I drink my tea after lunch, I decided it was a most worthy topic for a Saturday afternoon post. Certainly Gao must have eaten one, as I expect his "Good Book" says "after overspending on eating out for six days, on the seventh day, thy wallet shall rest."

Well, guess we'll never know.

Pre-pandemic, I picked up a plain cheese pizza from the 7-11 down the block on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, as it was the only place close by that was open. It was not a pizza I would ever go out of my way for, but it was a little better than what I was expecting.

There are a few online video reviews of 7-11 pizza; the consensus seems to be: "I've had worse." :D

No worse than a frozen pizza? I am guessing that it IS a frozen pizza that the kid at 7-11 sticks in an oven. The chains always have some deal for $7.99 or $8.99 if I wanted cheap pizza and at least they are making them. I would have to be pretty desperate to try 7-11.
And off the top of my head...I can't think of 7 meats I want on a pizza.

I’ll take the $1.99/slice of pepperoni at Costco any day. One slice is enough for a luncheon meal. Pizza is very bad to eat late at night. It’s the health version of dead money.

I can't even name 7 meats.

Pepperoni, italian sausage, bacon, ham, ground beef, chorizo, salami, canadian bacon, pulled pork, brisket.

Not all of those are on the 7-11 pizza. "Our 7-Meat Pizza is topped with Chicago-Style Sausage, meaty sausage and beef crumbles, crispy pepperoni, smoky bacon, Canadian Bacon and diced ham."

Thank you, Dr. Gao. I trust that the Costco pizza is also bad to eat "late at night." This is why, in the unlikely event that I'd ever be eating either Costco or 7-11 Pizza late at night, I'd be sure to have both an antacid tablet along with a glass of Red Antioxidant Juice to wash it down.

In defence of supermarket frozen pizzas, a lot of them are better, imo, than what the chain pizza places sell. Those Dr Oetker ones are not bad at all.

If Dr. Oetker pizzas are considered "not bad", that's not really good either. Don't get me wrong, but those frozen ones from the supermarket just seem to "taste like sad" as someone put it. I would leave one at the bottom of my freezer as an "in case of emergency", but hopefully source something better.

We don't have many 7-11s here but I don't think they have any pizzas yet (then again, I haven't stepped in one here in years). I do wish they would take a lesson from their brethren in Asia and get innovative (maybe some oden or japanese sandwiches.... or maybe some korean vittles).

The TJ's made in Italia ones have been pretty good. Very hot oven, pizza right from the freezer.

Meanwhile, some FTer somewhere has probably eaten a 7-11 pizza.

Yeah I've had a few good generic supermarket ones. I remember in the 90s as a kid they were dreadful – like a bin lid with a bit of cheese on top – but whatever they have done they are noticeably better quality.

I meant "not bad" in the idiomatic sense, ie fairly good. Maybe freezing tech has improved since whenever they first started selling frozen pizza.

Oh, I'm sure it has, however freezing tech hasn't solved the inherent issue of dehydration. Compared to fresh <insert your food here> foods, it will usually be found to be lacking. There are only a few foods I find that improve with freezing (like durian pods) and even those foods that do handle freezing well, can't be frozen for too long.
