Lunch from Opa Grille: chicken souvlaki over Greek salad (lunch special - gave the soup to my friend)

Hors d'oevres included crackers and crudite with taramasalata, babaganoush, tzatziki, and Jarlsberg cheese.

Homemade gefilte fish (from NetCost, with Russian white and Gold's red horseradish) (fish was kind of sweet but good texture; white horseradish was the real winner)
Matzo ball soup (homemade and delicious)

Brisket (grandmother's recipe and super tender, was cooked slightly lower and slower)
Kasha varnishkes
Noodle and cheese kugel
Broccoli

Honeycake
Pear tart
Apple tart

This just reminds of that controversy with Dr. Oz... It's veggie tray dammit!

Although that does sound tasty.

That sounds like quite a spread! I've got to get me an invite one of these days. Most jewish families I know are keeping it small (as in no guests) again this year. That's one thing I miss... small-ish potluck gatherings between good friends/family with the variety of foods that you find.

My cousin brought me a bag of key limes, invited herself to brunch and asked for a key lime pie! No wonder I’m her favorite cousin.

Mostly? Not wanting to get sick (and not just from covid). Many of the families who have young kids have sniffles... Not quite the encouragement to want to share food. One family with an elderly parent I know living with them was being a bit more cautious as they recently recovered from pneumonia and had the rest of the relatives zoom from their gathering (where the rest of the family was).

I know lots of food was consumed for some... Apparently I can expect a container of matzo ball soup and some brisket for tomorrow.

We had zero desire to keep it small tonight except we have Tuesday school plus the beach service ends at 7!

I’m pretty sure we will participate in a huge mega break the fast next week.

sacrifices today:
1. Volleyball double header meets
2. Roxy music tonight

pre temple brunches :

pastries & mango (intentional sideway photo)

toast & soppresata

Big family/friends lunch at Park Side:

Assorted bread, including their famous pork bread

Penne pasta with tomato sauce

Salad

Chicken Breast Cacciatore, off the bone

Out of this world! Best chicken cacciatore I've ever had.

Biscotti

Lemon tart
Crème brûlée
Chocolate mousse cake (did not have any)
Lemon sorbet (did not have any)

I did not have breakfast today and I'm glad I didn't! Will probably make salad for dinner and just have that. I have half the chicken leftover to have for lunch tomorrow! We used to go to Park Side every year for lunch after we stopped going to Portofino (which was never any good but my grandparents' friends liked it and hosted), and then stopped during the pandemic. It felt very special to return there and they were very gracious in having our party. We will absolutely return there for years to come.

Lunch & dinner - 2 types of homemade spring rolls:
one with cabbage, carrots & noodles, and
the second with round beef, onions, parsley, and herbs.
Both served with salad
