I do not care for tripe, and I have never tried gizzards. I used to love beef tongue but now that I try to eat beef less often it has fallen out of favor (last time I had it was at last year's Deli DO and I don't think I will get it again).

I'm slammed with work today, so lunch was a couple of pieces of cold leftover pizza and some spring mix with bottled raspberry vinaigrette.

I see a couple of bottles of Patak's simmer sauce and a package of pita bread on the counter, so I'm expecting dinner to be a bit more interesting.

Love chicken hearts and gizzards!
Dad used to make boiled then marinated/pickled beef heart chilled and sliced for hors d'oeuvres with crackers and cheese. Great stuff.
All liver is out. All other offal is out unless it's casing for a sausage.
A beets and tongue platter.

That will send shockwaves through DiningBuzz.

I'm cramping up just reading this.

As for my lunch, I took two banana leaf wrapped pig tamales out of the freezer (homemade from last Happy Baby Jesus Day) and served with some slaw with cilantro dressing, and some gwakamoley on the side.

Chuy’s fiesta, Sf:
too many tacos!
2 / quesabirria (supposedly birria is Goat) with consommé
1 / pibil (pulled pork)
it’s a challenge - these are all so good.

i think that the things you didn’t eat are all on that 30 plan you use. Have you tried any of these delights?

it’s just the next level of V8! Surely even you have Bloody Mary drinks with the fun garnish - celery and more. Beets are probably good with it. I don’t really drink these things because I prefer to eat vegetables instead of drink them. Even though I drank consommé with today’s luncheon, I normally eat meat and don’t drink meat.

Lucca deli in Sf on chestnut has tongue.
i too enjoy offal. I love foie gras and had to stop eating it for cholesterol reasons. I eat high cholesterol meats (cow pig) and offset with more poultry and seafood.

definitely have enjoyed tongue / gizzard with Korean and Chinese cuisine. I tend to have the tripe / tendon in pho. I’ve had pigs feet with Chinese and Mario battali restaurants (he called them pigs trotters)

I think you would enjoy gizzard.

ok kids so what’s the consensus:
fish head / cheek
pig feet
chicken feet (mostly only in dim sum)

if a lot of eat beef tartare, then why not cooked offal?

Traditional birria is goat or lamb, but on these cheesetacodeliciousgutbombs served all over these days, the animal is typically cow.

ooh. I really can’t tell. I also didn’t ask. Gracias!
i only had my first quesabirria taco this year - at a VIETNAMESE place in Oakland! The “anarchy” side, on International. And then I’ve only had it at Chuy’s this year, total of 2 meals. I’ve craved them since reading about them in 2020. They’re available at so many places and I act as if it’s an Uber rarity to get to go and have them, as if it’s gold.

There is a Jewish deli and bakery here in Scottsdale, which was started as a bagel factory in the 1970s by a family from Queens. Every Wednesday, they have a special - 18 bagels for the price of a dozen. My partner is nuts about their salted pretzel bagels, so about twice a month I get him a soft salami sandwich on a salted pretzel bagel, then 9-10 salt bagels and the rest sesame, poppy or cinnamon raisin (for me). I don't care for the salt either. Not big on the black and white cookies either.
