Your favorite (more than steak) beef dish?
My wife is literally under doctor's orders to consume red meat. She had been a vegetarian for years, then added seafood about a decade or so ago "for the health benefits." Now she has been told that for at least the next couple of months that she needs to consume red meat. (Do you want a referral to this doctor? :D)
I cook a fair bit of steak at home for myself, often either as "just" steak or sliced on salad, in tacos, etc. I'm tired of steak now after having it every dinner for a week (to the point I have eaten vegetarian dinners now for a couple of days while she tries each different cut of steak I've cooked up). We're likely doing burgers tonight, but I realized just how many other beef-based dishes there are that she has missed out on and may be open to eating while medically necessary. Pho, obviously. Beef rendang. Shaking beef. And so forth... So what are your favorites, so I can suggest take-out or cook-at-home ideas? |
Carryout:
pho bbq brisket Chinese beef brisket / soup beef tongue deli / taqueria cooking: Roast beef / prime rib cheeseburger Grilled tri tip grilled beef skewers |
Curries , kebabs , korma , pastas like pappardelle with beef cheek , pies like mushroom & steak , rendang as you mentioned , roast beef , prime rib , BBQ ribs , hot pot / shabu shabu or steamboat , sliced & stir fry with mushrooms or vegetables ( broccoli , kai lan , etc ) , stroganoff .. long list . Love beef !
How about oxtail stew ? Does veal count ? Like vitello alla milanese Possibly substituting some with lamb / mutton if she cannot manage with so much beef ? |
Köfte; pan-seared in butter and served with rosemary and sea salt; consumed with sesame oil, salt/pepper, and doenjang, then wrapped up in lettuce/shiso (Korean-influenced, called ssam)
|
A good bolognese sauce.
Bulgogi If the red meat thing is iron related, I can also recommend red wine and spinach. |
Osso bucco.
Fondue. |
Braised short ribs with polenta or maybe egg noodles.
|
Beef and mushroom pie or beef and guiness pie.
Cottage pie Massaman curry (I've never made it but it's one of my fav Thai dishes). Thai beef salad Beef Wellington Stroganoff Goulash Lasagne Ragu As an aside, do you like lamb? That opens a few more options. |

I would think anyone would get sick of beef, even if you have a different cut every day. Perhaps another way to look at it is how to "hide" the beef in other dishes. Not literally hide it, but make it so the dish isn't about beef. Such as the Bolognese or goulash as some people suggested. Maybe chili? Even better, make a thick homemade chili and serve it over all beef hot dogs? :) How about a Reuben (corned beef or pastrami)? Even just hiding it in tacos with lots of good veggie toppings.

I think chili is on the menu for sure, particularly next stretch of really nasty weather. |
