Bought some jumbo local/domestic cherries at my local WM for C$4.33/Kg ($1.97/lb) on Monday. Wife went to pick up more yesterday and it had dropped to C$2.33/Kg or ~C$1.05/lb.

My local Kroger has cherries for 99 cents a pound this week. No idea if they’re any good, yet.

We picked the last of our Rainier cherries from our old but small tree yesterday. 8 lbs. These were much better than the first pickings, but personally I much prefer bings.

Formerly local supermarket chain had cherries "on sale" for C$2.88/lb which isn't great.
However, the stuff being sold was from this outfit that grows/markets superjumbo cherries worldwide. Quite a deal as they're expensive otherwise. |
Bought two bags of cherries from "Real Canadian Superstore" for $1.84/lbs. The two cherries I had weren't bad.... just need to wash them and do some more testing. :)

CherriesPricey luxury fruit is a big business in Japan, and Yamagata prefecture is out with a new variety, the Benio, that is the result of 20 years of research and breeding to make an optimal flesh-to-seed ratio. They're selling for 8,300 yen ($60) per kilogram at market but then over $80 for a small bucket at retail in Tokyo. Yamagata is responsible for producing 12,000 tons of cherries, roughly 75 percent of the annual harvest, and the premium cherries provide crucial income to the small farmers who make up the backbone of the business.Alice French, Nikkei Asia |

I tasted one and it was good but not good enough to spend that kind of money. 🥴🍒 Before somebody points out...I do know that those are not cherries in the photo. The cherries were in bags at the front of the display and that was a tall sign. 😃 |

David p.s. Any pics of the those Timberline Marble cherries? Apparently the cherries only have a 10 day picking season. |

Well, looks like Southern California's about to get Hilary Sky Geyser. Stay dry!

Well I drink that water every day & stopped on my way home from Costco but yes I am bracing for a storm that has a chance of being over-hyped. How many times have we heard "storm of the century ". 🌪 |
No Timberline marbles, but what was available at the Harris Teeter Vienna VA:

First of the season California cherries - today in Dixon (Pedrick Rd. fruit stand) $2.49/lb. Already bagged in 2+lb bags - mixed degrees of ripeness, but who the eff cares - at $2.49 and available, yay. A few minutes earlier, while driving on I-80, I had mentioned that the cherries should be ready soon, and I don't think today's rain should affect the ripening crop. And voila, within a couple of minutes, one of the signs on the side of the freeway said "Cherries $2.49/lb" and we got two lanes over, exited, and bought a bunch of stuff, including cilantro at 25¢ a bunch, artichokes, onions, yellow bell peppers, blueberries (first that I've seen not imported all year), an orange cauliflower, and another thing or two.
Yes you haters, you hate California until we export all this deliciousness to you :p |

Our blueberry season is about over. They weren’t very sweet this year. I saw California cherries today at Publix for the first time this year. They were priced at $4.99 a pound. I also bought the first US grown peaches this week - it’s been at least a month since the last of the South American crop disappeared from the shelves. They were $1.34 a pound.

I only buy Jumbo blueberries. They aren't everywhere but not hard to find. They are extra big and more expensive but always excellent.

I got 2lbs/$5 cherries (allegedly from California) from my favorite street fruit guy yesterday. And since blueberries have entered the chat already, I will add that I also got 2 boxes of Driscoll’s “ Sweetest Batch” blueberries, also 2/$5. I had thought Sweetest Batch was just a marketing trick to charge more but I have to say all the berries I have had branded as such have indeed been very good.

PSA that the 4th of July holiday means cherries are on sale at many supermarkets, at least in my neck of the woods. Cheapest I’m seeing in today’s flyers is $1.99/lb (Stop & Shop).
|
C$1.88 + tax up here starting tomorrow.
(Product of USA...not sure when it's our turn) |
On sale at Lidl by my place for $2.99 / lbs - outside of DC
|
|
They’re back up to $3.99. The best I had this summer were $2.99 a pound, sweet and fragrant.
