Seafood on planes
guys - what are your thoughts about seafood on plane - salmon, shrimp, etc? A while ago, seemed like it was recommended to avoid in-flight but looking to hear what others do about this

For years, seafood (or pasta) has been my go-to meal on planes, especially on international flights. My personal experience is that beef, chicken, and pork tend to get dried out when heated in the plane oven.
I've never had a problem...although some have said I have an iron stomach. :D |
My parents would both tell you that they hate the idea of seafood on planes. But that's because, at the age of 13, this committed shrimp hater changed her mind after a shrimp cocktail in first class on Pan Am from London to JFK. The family seafood bills rose exponentially once that happened.

if you assume it'll all be equally mediocre there's no let down. i dont have any reservations be it shrimp salad, fish filet for main, salmon for breakfast. because theres no alternative that will be spectacular in comparison

I routinely take seafood or pasta before any other selection. Have not been poisoned yet, but have had a million inedible beef and chicken dishes.

Thanks I've never had rotten seafood on a plane, but I avoid it since it tends to be overcooked or just looking tired. |
I have no issues with it. Actually the best airline meal I've had was a grilled butter fish served on Austrian Airlines.

Don't expect fresh - it will be heavily treated before cooking and reheating.

Delicious salmon on Swiss last month. I now routinely order the fish. Have yet to be disappointed.

I always eat the Cod on Alaskan, but I also always avoid the raw/ cold starters on Thai Airways! Haven't been sick yet (from seafood :p) |

some of the best fish I've had was the halibut I had on Qantas in biz LAX-SYD, and that was after a mechanical delay of 2.5 hours. It was moist and not over-cooked. I routinely get the salmon on AA with no complaints. It probably helps that by the time the food arrives, I've had about twelve gin & tonics.

I fly JL9-10 ORD-NRT in business a few times a year for work. The Japanese set meal's fish is very good. Never been dry...the bento box before the main has some "interesting" items in there but the main is always good
