Cleaning / curing Teflon coated electral appliances + pots pans cleaning

Hi

I was told years ago that there was a way to "cure" the Teflon coating on a new electrical appliance to make it stay on better and not scratch as easy , and wonder if that is true ?

Also how do you clean Teflon electrical appliances that have caked on grease , eggs, sauces etc that you forgot to get off when it was warm.
They say not to put them in water.

Thanks for your advice
