I have never had a WhataBurger! Am I missing something?
Blasphamy I know but I am not a huge In&out fan (although I pass one almost every day) since I don't like american cheese and I find the burger rather dry and bland. The fries are horrid. The shakes are beyond bad(although those are off my list now)
So I look forward to trying a Whataburger when I am in Austin in a few days https://www.buzzfeed.com/farrahpenn/...are#.axXWYQwxX |

That also pretty much describes Whataburger.

Nothing special about Whataburger. I do feel the patties on Five Guys is better than In-n-out though

Ugh, no. The flat, crumbly, grey patties at Five Guys we can no longer stomach. However the fries are good, so our new thing here is when my son's hockey game is at the rink down the street from Five Guys, we'll pick up fries on the way home where I fix burgers with known ingredients, like fresh ground beef and diced onion topped with actual cheddar. Making fries at home makes too much mess.
If you hate that you should see what they eat in the Midwest called a "loose burger" |

Whataburger is a decent enough local chain. We eat there and like it just fine. While you are in Austin, you should give Dan's/Fran's Hamburgers a try. It's an Austin-based chain and good as well. I don't recommend PTerry's, however. I just don't get the attraction.
Outside a chain, I would really recommend Hut's on West 6th Street. Here's link to some others: http://austinburgerjoints.weebly.com/downtown.html |

I like the crumbliness. Gives it substance.

If someone brought you 5 different fast food burgers and you ate them while blindfolded, I don't think you could pick Whataburger out from the pack. It's just one of many places I don't feel drawn to. Tried it. Not impressed.

Also not a fan of Whataburger. No different than most of the burger chains. When in the Southeast/South/Mid-Atlantic, try Cookout. Excellent burgers, service and value. Cajun spice on the fries. Amazing milkshakes. ^

I have a lot of Midwestern relatives. I've heard all the various names for "loose burger" - like "diarrhea in a bun" for example.

Haven't had Whataburger! since the 70's, but it sounds like I'm not missing much. My go-to on the west coast is Carl's Jr and in the Midwest it's Sonic. Does Dairy Queen still make hamburgers? I seem to recall they had a good product at one time.

I guess we're all wrong. According to this, Whataburger! has the fifth best chain burger in the USA...
