Tripadvisor will delete all airside restaurants
 

I recently got one of my contributions deleted by Tripadvisor, and mailed them to ask what's going on.
Helpdesk replied:
"We are sorry, but we list Airline restaurants so long as they are accessible to the general public and not for departing passengers only. We are sorry but this is the policy we are implementing."

What a shame! Restaurant reviews for air travellers is exactly the type of advice i'd expect from a site calling itself Tripadvisor. I guess i'll have to resort to Foursquare when in in transit next time.

Thanks for posting this. That would probably explain why I've had a number of reviews disappear recently. With hundreds of reviews, it's hard to drill down to find out exactly which ones disappeared.

That's odd. We're just seeing a trend in Europe for more proper airside restaurants. That's one Gordon Ramsey and one Heston Blumenthal restaurant off Tripadvisor in the UK then.

What in the world would they do this for?

A large hub airport is actually a place I would find reviews helpful.

How incredibly stupid of them.

I had Trip Advisor reject two lounge reviews that didn't appear in their searches which I found odd. Had all the associated websites, phone numbers to validate existence. They rejection email didn't go into detail just saying Trip Advisor was not interested in adding these kinds of new product reviews.

Isn't GateGuru a TripAdvisor company?

Maybe they're trying to drive all discussion about airside amenities to that (and help resuscitate it--it's been dying for awhile). If so, they're doing a crappy job of it--they'd have done much better to move that content over rather than delete it or at least mention that in their notices of deletion.

Or maybe they truly don't care as a company to aim for the air traveler market. That would explain why they're letting GateGuru die a long, slow death...

I'm not sure whether GateGuru is displaying restaurant reviews mirrored from TA?
It they are, TA is shooting themselves in the foot by deleting restaurant pages.
To me it doesn't look like a grand master plan, just some over zealous support drones interpreting the listing guidelines too literally.

After escalating this to a top exec at Tripadvisor, finally the support crew got back to my ticket!

To correct this, we have re-established the Pontus in the Air restaurant listing, which will go live on our website in 48 hours. In addition, we've marked this restaurant as being after security. This tag will be visible on the listing to ensure traveler's are aware of this restaurant's location.

We will follow up with the agents who at the time were not able to correctly interpret the listing guidelines to prevent this from happening in the future. We apologize for any inconveniences caused and once again thank you for your contributions."

What still needs to be clarified:

1. Can TA please rewrite the listing policy, to avoid future overzealous staff from deleting again?

2. As a user, how do I know WHICH establishments at WHICH airports are legit, if I want to review a new restaurant that is not yet listed?

3. Is there any way for a user to flag a listing as "past security"? Or what is the correct procedure to add this tag if it is missing from a listing?
