In the " good old days"a chair in a good restaurant was comfortable. You were comfortable enough to sit fora while, order an after dinner drink , talk a little after dinner. Nowdays I think chairs are a little uncomfortable on purpose to help restaurants turn tables. Stiff, hard, etc. Do you know any places that still encourage you to sit and order a bit more? Or all they all gone?

THIS. I complain about this all the time. Especially the bar chairs where the seat is wood with no cushion and the chair "back" is 2 inches tall. I always end up standing at the bar making people around me uncomfortable because I don't want to sit in those stupid seats.

NYC seems to have a massive trend towards small backless stools in the hottest restaurants. Salvation Burger comes to mind as a "restaurant of the month" - but also have seen this trend at places running near $100 a person.
