The Galette des Rois Thread

Anyone having galette des rois over the next few days? My husband celebrates epiphany, so we pick up a galette, usually at Payard. I will be ordering later today, and picking up on the 6th.

How about you? Do you make your own? Pick one up somewhere? Go to a relative's? I must admit, the frangipane is addictive . . .

I ordered one Saturday for Sunday at my local artisanal boulangerie. It was delicious as always.

The one from Picard is just fine for my taste. We have one both on the "amended" date for epiphany (first Sunday) and one on the traditional date (Jan. 6). And if afterwards Picard puts them on sale, I grab some more ;)

Oh, delicious! I love the idea of picking up extras on sale! I had noticed that Payard has them available through Sunday, and wondered what that was about. There is an "amended" Epiphany day? And here my husband has always told me it's the twelfth day of Christmas and all that . . .

Mon Dieu non! If you have access to a real boulangerie you mustn't shop at Picard! There is such a massive difference in quality between industrial galletes and hand made artisanal offerings.

OMG, complètement d'accord, rien à voir !!!! Dying for a real galette right now...

I was looking at recipes and how-to videos on youtube, thinking I would be brave this year, and attempt to make one myself. Not. Happening. Payard is good enough, and the Columbus Circle branch is within walking distance. Last year, the feve was a small Le Creuset pot. No idea what it will be this year.

ETA:The feve this year is a wedding cake!

In places where there is no public holyday for Epiphany, local Catholic bishops can move it to the first Sunday after Jan. 1st. That's the case in France.

Well this year we cut the poire en deux, a "real" one last weekend, and Picard's today...

I overdosed on Galette des Rois yesterday. So delicious. I ate 3 slices and am now sweating almond paste. I'm good for another year...

Moi aussi! I wonder if my local bakery has any... I already know it won't be as good as the real thing though.

I tried checking on frenchmorning.com, but they only have NY, San Fran, LA, and Miami editions. Sorry.

As usual... the Midwest gets no love (just like with a lot of cheap ticket deals). Anyway, thanks for checking!

Yes, but you guys have Kringle.

Actually, for that matter, I have never even see Galette des Rois before - how does it compare to Kringle?
