We have Global entry, but when it asks if you exceeded your personal exemptions, we answer yes. The agent when you leave the customs area after you pick up your bags then directs if he will just let you through, or if you have to pay duty. If you pay duty, it is about a 5 minute process. They calculate the amount you owe, and you can pay it on your credit card. We had a very tight connection, so as my husband waited for the boxes to arrive, I spoke to the agent, who had the agent who was going to collect the duty waiting for us.
If you like wine as much as we do, and want the wines that don't get imported to the US, this is the way to go! |

Add Groot Constancia to your list if you are in Stellenbosch. Skip the low end wines as they are simple and for the entry level drinker. The high end wines are great. The estate is unbelievable, operating since the 1700's. They showed us a bottle of their wine (not available for the general public, but ask if you can see it) recovered from a sunken ship which sank hundreds of years ago.
