We keep microwaveable popcorn (usually Pop Secret brand) popcorn around for an occasional late-night snack while we're watching a movie. I would say we have it's once a week at most.
A few years ago, I saw one of DH's relatives melting a little butter to put on some popcorn, and it was a an eye-opener for me---it seemed awfully decadent. (I grew up in a household much more given to self-denial than self-indulgence.) Now I always melt a little butter for popcorn. As someone said above, it's not much in terms of calories, and just a tablespoon or less is plenty for enough popcorn for two people. |
Air pop, and toss with a bit of finely microplaned Parmigiano-Reggiano.
(the longer strands of the microplane stick to the popcorn better) Edit: Just found this interesting recipe on the Popocorn Board website. Might have to try this, high protein low fat: Adobo and Roasted Peanut Popcorn . |
Salt-- nature's flavor! Works on popcorn and red meat and most food in between in my opinion

I love my air popper...it's fun for the whole family. It's funny how every dog immediately learned to come and stand near the counter as soon as the air popper is turned on :).
My favorite topping is a teaspoon of butter flavored olive oil and a sprinkle of kosher salt. It's like a yummy version of movie theater popcorn. |
Here's a bunch of popcorn topping ideas: http://www.sparkpeople.com/blog/blog...r_150_calories
I like ranch (powdered ranch dressing from the packet). Yum...now I want some popcorn! |

Someone here other than me must know that arare (smallish rice crackers) and nori furakake (seaweed flake seasoning) when shaken with lightly buttered (or olive oiled) popcorn makes a "hurricane" -- a staple sold in every movie theatre in Hawaii!
My 2nd favorite way to eat popcorn |
I use a large saucepan with glass lid and melt some coconut oil, add Glaze Pop Caramel then mix and heat and then the popcorn and start shaking the pan when it pops and then give it a quick stir. I also like to give it a touch of icing sugar from a shaker. I use 50% greater dose for the glaze than it says on the pack.
Very pleased with the results. |
+1 for the freshly grated parmesan
|
I have been using "zero" calorie spray butter. It's also not great, but it's an improvement and makes the popcorn salt stick a lot better!

There's this caramel popcorn with maple bacon pieces mingled through-out, which I will be picking up this weekend at The Noble Pig, if they haven't sold out by the time I get there.

I actually just finished my air-popped popcorn dinner/dessert;). I love butter (just light drizzle) but usually do not-so-good zero calorie fake butter spray.
Love truffle salt, sea salt, Parmesan cheese, or buffalo wing sauce. But this thread has given me some other new ideas! |
