Who still drinks with breakfast

Okay, very seldom. But yesterday I had breakfast at LHR and had a glass of champagne with my smoked salmon. It seemed like the thing to do. Just one glass, and none on the flight even though I was in business. But sometimes it really adds to the breakfast. I have also had champagne or other sparkling wines with espresso and breakfast. Not much of a Bloody Mary person in general, although at times I have them.

Any one else?

Do the same

Do the same at LHR T4 in a wonderful SkyTeam Lounge.

Unless a boozy breakfast is the best part of your day, and if you treat the drink as a well-deserved indulgence, then I say go for it.

Seems like a waste not to.

Gamecock May 21, 2014 6:48 pm

Only when sitting up front.

Kalua and coffee or a mimosa please!

You do know about airport rules, right?

Off to LHR T5 now for some champagne and eggs Benedict in the BA F lounge. Come on by!

Breakfast of Champions.;)

2 or 3 times per year.

Every Labor Day weekend, Mrs Willie & I host a weekend party at our cabin in N Wisconsin. Bloody Marys are served each morning.

Then a couple times per year, Mrs Willie & I will dine at a Sunday brunch and have a mimosa or other "morning" breakfast drink. This is becoming rare as with the exception of Labor Day weekend, I just don't drink that much anymore.

Ahhh one-upping my "Who Still Drinks With Lunch?" thread are we? :D

I will but only while traveling. Mimosa, vodka with OJ, Cranberry with OJ, baileys, whiskey in my coffee...you name it! If I'm awake, if I'm in First/Business I'm drinking!

I had my nice breakfast champagne and saw your thread and well, I'm weak. ;)

I'll often do it when on vacation and somewhat less frequently when at home on the weekend if having a nice brunch with friends. Never to start a work day, even if it's free. I can enjoy a drink or two with lunch, but if I hit it in the morning my focus just isn't there for the work day.

As far as the actual morning drinks go, I like bloody marys, but only the first few sips. Just too heavy for me to enjoy a whole glass. Mimosas are ok but I don't like all the sugar. Give me vodka with a nice tart grapefruit juice, or some sugar free red bull!

onobond May 22, 2014 2:58 pm

Last breakfast at LHR T5 F Lounge started with a glass of champers, followed by a glass of Catena Malbec that went well with the back bacon, couple of bangers, a slice of black pudding and some white beans/tomato sauce. Even indulged in a second glass of the Malbec :)

PSUhorty May 22, 2014 4:29 pm

Obviously, when on vacation. Other than that... Our annual British Open Saturday and Sunday get-together at a friend's house. And rest assured, it ain't no mimosas or Kaluha and coffee.

It would have to be a special occasion, like a football saturday in Lincoln,Ne, for an 11am game.

I did my undergrad at Arizona State and I remember stopping at a Safeway to pick up a newspaper at 7:30 AM on a gameday and students started drinking from the 30 packs they'd just bought right in the parking lot of the grocery store

Of course. Drink early, drink often, drink from the top shelf down.

I thought everybody did

GregWTravels May 23, 2014 9:39 am

On occasion:
  • When travelling on holidays, the holiday starts at the airport
  • On Sundays, a bloody Mary or a pint (depending on how late I roll out of bed)
  • If the day looks especially bad, a shot to calm the nerves.

What was that first step again?

This might be one of those charming cultural variations that make life, especially visits down under, so enjoyable. :)

ecmaster May 23, 2014 9:54 am

Sometimes, this harms no one ;)

On holidays or week end, this is really pleasant

r.e. Mr GadgetFreak

I was going to make some smart arse reply but I might rise above it, go to the fridge and get another wine, and let it go

lhrsfo May 25, 2014 4:31 am

One of my holiday time student jobs was at a very smart wine merchants in London. It still sold Champagne in pint bottles - apparently this was very common in the earlier part of the 20th Century but, by the time I was there in the 70s, it was down to just Bollinger (IIRC) who bottled in this way.

The legend went that a husband and wife found a bottle too much for breakfast and a half bottle too little. A pint was perfect!

A little screwdriver with my tasteless pastry at 6 AM

A good way to start the day ;)

BamaVol May 27, 2014 3:19 pm

A couple times a year. Champagne, mimosa or bloody mary are all acceptable. I couldn't get used to a beer with breakfast although on vacation I seldom wait until noon.

A couple years ago, I spotted a sign at a Pensacola restaurant advertising "bottomless champagne". Imagine my disappointment when I discovered they were just referring to the glass. They paid for it in champagne, I tell you! I bet we sat there getting refilled every 15 minutes for 3 hours.

Reading your post makes other aspects of *bottomless* come to my mind ;)

But now for something completely different, my half-empty glass of Taittinger need some help before getting refilled

Completely agree!! :) :)

I do. Even if I am NOT on vacation. Just this weekend I had a bloody marry with my late breakfast.

onobond Jun 5, 2014 1:14 pm

Beeing late out getting out of Hilton Docklands, decided to down prio breakfast. Check-in, security was a whim, as 14 minutes after entering LCY, I found myself with a glass of Taittinger in the LCY gate/lounge 24.

Is there a need for another thread "Who still drinks before breakfast?"
:p

I'll drink Bloody Marys for breakfast if I am hungover from the night before. My best girlfriend is from Australia. I'll be seeing her for Christmas. So I'll be drinking every morning, afternoon and evening with her. I do like Sunday brunches. A good Mimosa, makes a good start! But a cold winter day morning sometimes calls for Rum and hot chocolate. So yummy, but dangerous.
