Do not eat them often in the US, but stroopwafels (waffer cookies) are my favorite.

milepig Aug 16, 2013 3:57 pm

I love cookies. All cookies. Anytime. Especially Christmas cookies - my mom made amazing thin crispy sugar cookies that we could decorate...and amazing date balls that were no-bake and involved melted dates (yes, they melt) and rice crispies.) And spritz and homemade shortcake. Oops, I think my pancreas just burst.

All that having been said, I have to go with chocolate chip, made from scratch from the recipe on the back of the bag, no nuts, thin and soft but baked long enough that the bottom is brown and a little crispy. Nothing fancy, no white chocolate, no Swiss chocolate made by elves under a full moon, all that's fine for other purposes. But the real deal needs to be Nestle Chocolate Chips. No other brand will substitute.

Have you had Mariano's (it's a Chicago thing) choc. chip with M&M's?!

flyboy60 Aug 16, 2013 6:02 pm

I suspect that my favorite cookie would be Kate Upton, but I haven't had the chance to taste her.

jozdemir Aug 16, 2013 6:28 pm

White chocolate macadamia Subway cookies that are still nice and soft...

Otherwise those free cookies you get at a Doubletree, even just for novelties sake ;)

Nope. M&Ms fail my "only chocolate chips" rule. But, only in cookies. They're wonderful in many other ways.

Well, Mariano's has "plain" chocolate chip cookies too. I just had one - with vanilla ice cream. The didn't have the M&M cookies today. :)

White chocolate macademia is my favorite. But for those in TX, HEB sells pre-made chocolate chip cookies that just needs to bake for 9 minutes that pretty good.

jiffer21225 Aug 19, 2013 5:45 pm

Honolulu Cookie Company chocolate dipped macadamia are great. Not overly sweet. I also love Berger Cookies. The are made in Baltimore and popular in the Baltimore area. They are pretty sweet so one is enough for me. :)

Did buy some macarons in France last week and confirmed what I thought before, that they're just not for me. Really wanted to find the Laura Todd cookies that were mentioned earlier but couldn't find.

snickerdoodle all the way ...? so good

CMK10 Aug 25, 2013 1:40 pm

On the cookie front I'm very simple, a doughy chocolate chip cookie with NO nuts and lots of chocolate or a good snickerdoodle, also doughy with lots of sugar

I'm allergic to nuts, so I obviously dislike nuts in my cookies.

Has anyone had the chocolate dipped shortbread from Costco? They look good, but I don't want to buy them if they're New York Deli black and white nasty. :D

ysolde Aug 26, 2013 4:25 pm

AA's chocolate chip cookies.

Lebkuchen on LH during December.

What? We are talking about the airlines, right? Right????

I have a rule where I like nuts by themselves (mmm ramekin in First Class) but not in anything. I want my cookies, brownies etc. to be nut free.

Ditto. Not nuts or fruit in baked goods, with the exception of blueberry muffins, but only a few blueberries.

As for cookies, the class NYC black & white or a homemade chocolate chip, with comparatively few chips.

RandyRenaud Aug 26, 2013 11:19 pm

chocolate chip is the best one.

milepig Aug 27, 2013 8:54 am

I'd forgotten about the cookies you can buy in the big box at Ikea. Two really crispy wafers with chocolate between them. Pretty good stuff.

What about favorite store bought? I like Pepperidge Farm Bordeaux.

Specialty's semisweet chocolate chunk.

x1000 when the chocolate is all melty.

Like several others, I like cookies! I really enjoyed this thread because I'm on a diet at the moment and I can only enjoy cookies vicariously. The first variety that came to mind is store bought - Plain Chocolate Hob Nobs. I fell in love with these many years ago, but it is hard to find any in Texas. (milk chocolate just won't do.)

As for others, chocolate chip with Texas pecans, white chocolate macadamia nut, oatmeal, and little cinnamon cookies from Mom's recipe.

Okay, I'm stopping now because I'm getting hungry.

Your favorite cookie

I make cookies once a week for my office (start-up). Favorites to date - snickerdoodles, banana walnut, almond meal brownies, and Jacques Torres chocolate chip with vanilla sea salt. I am not a fan of cookies that I buy with the exception of hobnobs, Amaretti and anything that comes from Ottolenghi

Sub pecans for walnuts and you are 100% correct. I put a pinch of cinnamon in mine. ;)

Call me crazy but I love the Subway cookies, especially when they are fresh out of the oven.

dh

I've always been a fan of B&Ws from William Greenberg bakery on Madison Ave (www.wmgreenbergdesserts.com) but you've piqued my interest...next time I'm in Manhattan I'll have to stop at Orwasher's to see how theirs compare.

Ancien Maestro Sep 19, 2013 7:56 pm

Praeventia from Costco is doing wonders for regularity through its fibre content.^

Just commented this to my wife.:)

Just stopped off at Orwasher's and picked up a B&W. Quite tasty. That place is becoming a new favorite of mine. Still prefer the Levain cookies, but Orwasher's has some great stuff, and is on the right side of the park for me.

  • Biscochitos (better known as anise sugar cookies) - Grew up with these around Christmas. It's a simple recipe, too, so I don't have to wait until Xmas to get a batch.
  • Girl Scouts Samoas - Fortunately my coworkers are churning out daughters like it's their second job so I always have a ready supply of these. :D
  • Chocolate chip - I love them fresh baked and chewy, but the Keebler Soft Batch variety will do in a pinch.

Oh yes! I had those for the first time in February when I was in Baltimore and fell so madly in love that I had to learn how to make them.

Reminiscent of a NY Black and White, except without the white. Yummy, cakelike cookie covered in fudge. Divine!

My absolute favorite cookie is an Italian bakery creation that I don't know the name of. It's got a cookie like base, a dollop of apricot and a topping of almond paste, studded with pignoli nuts. Like a bite sized, heavenly nut pie. Again, something else that I learned how to make so that I wouldn't have to hunt for them :).
