frozen salad?
For lunch today, I decided to get a buffalo chicken salad from a nearby grocery store. They generally have good salads, so I wasn't concerned. When I returned to my office to consume said salad, I noticed that the lettuce and carrots were frozen. Not just really cold, but frozen solid.
If I allow it to sit out to thaw, will it be edible then? I'm not going back to the store to return it (it was all of $5), but I'm pondering if I can salvage it. Can I heat it in the microwave for a few seconds? |
The carrots will probably be fine. The lettuce will turn to a green liquid slime.

frozen salad?
Yuck, no way to freeze lettuce. Sorry you missed out on lunch. You really should get your money back though. It was probably stored improperly.

You can salvage it with a gun.

It's $5, and by the time I'd have stopped after leaving work, the salad wouldve been thawed.

but it would have been thawed and slimy, therefore proving it hadn't been stored properly.

The salad may not have been frozen intentionally, it may have been placed too close to the cooling unit in a fridge, or placed in a malfunctioning fridge. You should go after work and mention it to the manager so he can take appropriate corrective measures.
And if it was frozen intentionally, let him know that - uh-DUH! - that will ruin a salad. Keep the reciept. He may offer to give you a refund even if you don't take the salad with you. |
Damnable misleading thread title!
I though I would see a recipe for that old Southren standby, an actual frozen salad laden with fake whipped cream, fruit cocktail & chopped precans, Dixie's response to that noxious Yankee dish, "Waldorf Salad". |
