Verified it was a whole sea bream which was salt crusted and baked. Sea bream is difficult to find in Vancouver.....

I'll answer this 2 different ways -
best meal experience (and good food too): Robataya in Tokyo.
best new dish - pizzoccheri - potatoes, pasta, cheese, mmmmmm. Sounds so simple but it's so delicious!

Close between L'Atelier and The Greenhouse in London. I'd give the edge to the latter though both were fabulous. Highlights were the sea-bass with yuzu at The Greenhouse and the chicken broth ravioli with fois gras at L'Atelier. Two of the best and most innovative dishes I have had in my short lifetime :P

My best meal was at Diverxo in Madrid, Spain. Highly recommended.

La Teresita is always the first place I stop in Tampa. That place is a magical dive.

best for me... the water library in bangkok. not the thonglor popup restaurant but the other one by the university. supremely surprised by french techniques fused with thai organic food flavors. superb and by far better than some of the one star guide michelins i've been to (but not quite as good as the five two star guide michelin restaurants ive had the privilege to dine at). also had a truly great french red wine library and a well trained sommelier. truly an experience.

will be back in two weeks to taste again. im going back to bkk just for the restaurant experience.

Big post-conference dinner in Lishui, south part of Nanjing in Eastern China around end of October. The party secretary of Nanjing City was attending so the hosts had put up all sorts of local delicacies including steamed Yangcheng lake hairy crab.

For us it was a welcome break from a couple of hectic days and luckily nothing serious to discuss with our tablemates. So we just ate slowly and toasted on high quality baijiu.

Quince

Quince for me. I have been here about 5-6 times over the past few years, but they've really stepped up their game. They aren't the restaurant that they used to be in their old location. They are really gunning to be a michelin 3 star, you can tell. The food is exquisite, the service is impeccable, and the experience is fantastic every time.

I ate here 3 times this year, and each time, it is very impressive.

Been to State Bird Provisions, and it's excellent, but not a great dining 'experience'. French Laundry is a total rip-off, I agree. Still haven't been to Scomas, despite having been in San Francisco for over 20 years, nor have any of my colleagues or friends in SF (wonder why... ). The only people whom I know who have gone to Scomas are out of town guests. Also been to Masa's, Gary Danko, Fleur de Lys, La Folie, Michael Mina, but Quince really rises above them all.

The best meal of 2013 was at Dahlia Lounge in SEA. We ate a very large amount of the most delicious Kuamoto Oysters which we followed by eating luscious Dungeness crab cakes. Company was also great. I don't think it is possible to ever eat too many oysters at one sitting.

2012 was a year of serious food porn for me, but the one that definitely stood out was Noma. Had a nice reunion with a bunch of friends I hadn't seen in a while so we decided to do it big.

Believe the hype. What they were able to do with different flavors, and blending them into one dish was absolutely incredible. There were 7 or 8 dishes that just blew my mind.

Honorable mention goes to La Rosetta in Rome, the best pure seafood meal I've ever had.
