2016 Cave Renaissance Cornalin from the Valais region. Dark red color, black cherry on the nose and palate. Tannic, but not overpowering, really quite smooth. Bottle had the name of the vigneron on the back label which I thought was a nice touch. Wine was perfect with both a lamb shank and a filet.

Hung out with my wine collector friend on Monday and he opened 1985 and 95 Chateau de Beaucastel, a I think 1989 Pegau, a 2007 Meursault, Armand Rousseau Clos des Ruchottes/Ruchottes Chambertin (didn't catch the year), and a Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin (also didn't catch the year).

As many know, it is difficult to find Swiss wines in the U.S.. I think they import less than 3% of their wine worldwide. Imagine my surprise when my favorite wine store in NOLA had one in stock recently. I had to try it, so I bought a bottle. One of the lines written on the label was “Drink good wine”. Too bad this wine missed that mark. It was $20 and I wouldn’t pay even $10 for it.
