I'm back on the Gabutti Tempranillo from Mendoza at 55 pesos for a 3 litre cask. Went down well with my home made and horno baked pizza last night. ^

That wine news is enough to give Gaucho100K a heart attack.

Great combination.

I bought a case of the Vidal Fleury for about $10 a bottle last month and have been enjoying it with everything from pizza to bbq. Full, tart, straightforward, and excellent.

Tonight, finishing off a bottle of the 2007 Dard & Ribo Crozes-Hermitage.

We usually manage to finish off at least two bottles between my wife and me over an evening. I don't think that's too excessive, at least I hope not anyway!

For a few years I would periodically stay in a very rustic hotel in Italy, way out in the middle of nowhere, that had one redeeming feature - the manager also tended the bar and would pour you a big glass of vino rosso, really top it up, from their cask for €1. Good wine and good times

Having a Pierre Olivier Aloxe-Corton tonight. Paired perfectly with fricadelles somehow

Most "experts" say no more than 2 drinks per day for men and 1 per day for women. See http://www.lrdg.net/guidelines.html I'm not judging anyone because I go over the limits sometimes myself.

Also, from Dr. Oz http://www.oregonlive.com/health/ind...ting_myth.html

I don't know whether this was in jest .... but it is excessive.

Be careful ...... I'm no party pooper .... but you must know that 2+ bottles of wine between two on many evenings a week will probably harm you.

Not to get into a discussion about alcohol consumption, but:

I'm not really sure it's enough to harm an adult man. A bottle of wine is four glasses, equal to one "serving" of alcohol. Four drinks a night four nights a week, assuming that one drinks less the other three nights, is still within the realm of "normal" drinking behavior.

It's a good bit of drinking, a bit more than I do and I consider myself a "drinker," but I'd stop short of calling it excessive.

You need to read back through the thread. It is every night not 4 nights. And it's more than a bottle. I'm surprised anyone would think it unharmful.

Anyway ... it isn't my business ......

why so? because "medical science" says so? most medical scientists know about as much science as my vet(a pretty bright guy) who does not pretend to know any science. medical doctors have very very little scientific traning. if they can pass organic chemistry, they are in.

also, a bottle of wine is 25 oz, which is 5 glasses by medical count.

For what it's worth, I asked a friend who has a 4000 bottle wine cellar (mostly old Burgundy and Bordeaux) if it was odd that I drink a whole bottle in one evening sometimes. He said: "It doesn't make you an alcoholic. It just makes you a European."

It is our favorite. I get a nice allocation from Dumol, and have from their inception. Their wine maker is Andy Smith, formerly with Paul Hobbs. Send me a PM next time you are in Sonoma, and I will crack a bottle open for us to enjoy.

We are off to the Margaret River to sample some fine Shiraz in a a few weeks. If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears.
