Roast chicken for dinner so it's a toss-up between a red or white Burgundy

Peter Lehmann's Clancy red blend, 1995. (Gradually working my way through a complete vertical set from 1992 to date.) Goes very well with cold lamb, veggies and beautiful lamb stock gravy.

Ok this isn't really about what one is drinking.

BUT, I would like to get your thoughts on this contraption:

Coravin.

At times all I want is a glass and don't want to open a bottle, saw the above being used at a resto, was pretty impressed. Yes it is expensive, but after a couple of bottles being poured out, this thingy makes sense.

Anyone used it?

Went to my first wine tasting (here in IND) today and here's the three purchased:

1. Terra d'oro Zinfandel Port $12.00

I have never had port wine before so had lots of questions for the wholesaler. Decided to buy.

2. Villa D'Adige Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 $8.00

3. Domaine Laroque Cabernet Franc 2012 $13.00

Distributors that were there (200p - 400p / 400p - 600p):
1. Republic National Distribution Company
2. Glazer's
3. Southern Wine and Spirits
4. Carroll Wine & Spirits
5. Vino LeFebvre
6. Graybull Organic Wines, Inc.
7. World of Wines
8. Manolo's Wines
9. Give Wines
10. Mallow Run Winery
11. D & E Fine Wine Group (Glazer's Inc.)
12. Vanguard Wines
13. Crossroad Vintners
14. Free Market Wine Group

They used it at Beaux Freres when I was there a couple weeks ago. The guy who worked there and my wine aficionado friend both said that it's a handy tool but once used the wine will still slowly oxidize. The bottle will remain good for a week or so. The cork won't really re-seal after using it.

They also both seemed to think it was a bit of a gimmick.

I'll look for a link as I recall reading a review that included a few different "wine preservers" and the conclusion was that none were very effective.

For what it's worth, I think boxed wine is a good option for someone who likes the occasional glass or two. The wine stays fairly fresh for up to 30 days. My local wine shop (K&L) has a few decent French options that are good everyday wines. Avoid the 12% alcohol California crap...

Pork tonight, so Domaine de la Jasse Reserve d'Excellence 2011. Still very young so I'm trying to hold back on it - only bought four cases and I'd love to keep it going for another ten years.

For the boar steak tonight, an interesting eco-wine from Penedes, Spain, 2007 Albet i Noya Mart Reserva.

A collegue of mine was lyrical over this wine, so decided to try it out

A few days ago I pulled a French white wine out of the closet, something that I didn't remember buying. Apparently, I just glanced at the label without putting on my glasses to read it. I put the bottle in the refrigerator and pulled it out last night. When I tasted it, I looked at the label a little closer and found it was a Coteaux de Layon, a sweet wine made from Chenin Blanc grapes in the Loire Valley. It was a wonderful example that I would have saved had I realized what it was, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I just drank too many glasses and now I don't want to go to work.

2010 Cape Mentelle Cabernet Merlot, Margaret River, Western Australia. Drinkable today, but will improve in the coming 5-7 years.
