Perhaps I shouldn't mention this in the context of Nespresso & Gaggia, but we saw a Starbucks machine demonstrated across the frontier in Germany that brews milk from pods, in addition to what was stated as " coffee drinks." Not my taste, but an interesting concept feature. The machine was stated as made in Germany, but mass production there is very rare today, so one might conclude it is actually China. The machine was tall, programmable, and relatively slim for a counter top. It certainly looked German corporate in all black. I believe it was 199 Euro for the machine alone. I noted that the pod capsules were very large, and the representative demonstrating stated they take longer to brew up to the correct heat as a result. One capsule was dried milk which did foam up very well. The capsule price was mentioned as " one Euro each at this time, and only available for purchase in the Starbucks stores " which is an interesting concept as there seems to be one at every corner these days, even in the remotest village. If you are thinking about another version of foamed milk, you might take a look. We have our abundance of milk cows here, but a Litre or five with coffee, even if foamed is something we have not yet developed a taste for. |

Very interesting Swissaire. I too prefer my coffee black, either short or long. SWMBO on the other hand likes lattes, cappuccinos & macchiatos. I've reverted to a Bodum hand frother. Looks like a simple plunge jug but produces reliable froth after way too much effort. |
Most excellent !
Bodum is one of our better but less known companies here. I have not used the frother you mention, but we have some of the Bodum thermal-blown double-walled glassware for special occasions. |

I have a Pixie on my desk, a Citiz and an old Essenza in various places. I lust after the new Maestria with the steam wand. To your point above uk1, the consistency of the crema is key. I know quite a few places that I can buy better take-away & I can buy beans from various places & self-grind, BUT for effort expended vs taste, you can't beat Nespresso for corto/espresso. I'm less of a fan of the Aeroccino, very, very inconsistent. However, I love everything else about the machine! |
