Fresh Blackberries

There's a new crop in from Mexico. Incredibly juicy, sweet and the size of my thumb. Cheap too at 0.67 per 5oz./170g package.

LOL. As big as these blackberries. Seriously though, just from the first joint to the tip and definitely as big around.

Ah, lucky you, our season for them is well gone. We are lucky, though, the wild brambles around here are wonderful!

From Mexico, eh? I hope they've got their papers with them.

Still beautiful, delicious and available at the Santa Monica Farmer's Market. I'm buying a couple of baskets tomorrow AM

Wonderful crop of blackberries in our garden this season. My wife has been making some jam with them.

The Argentinians seem to call them raspberries for some reason.

Raspberries and Blackberries were all beautiful this morning at the Farmer's Market. The raspberries were unusually large and very very sweet.

My local Meijers had these for 50 cents a carton. Yummy.

The farmers market is into winter crops here now, the local blackberries harvested a while back, but these Mexican blackberries are really good. Better than the RIM variety ;)

I eat mexican produce all the time, it is very high quality. I even shop at the mexican market and specifically get mexican produce of some varieties, it is just better than the other stores when the farmers market doesnt have (or I didn't buy enough is the main thing!)

Where are you finding them in the DC area for that price, if you don't mind revealing your source? :) Thanks!

€2.80 for a150g punnet of Mexican blackberries in my local supermarket. Mix them with Bramley cooking apples and they make the most delicious Pie.;)

they were at harris teeter. this week are 2 for price of one??? who knows what that means.
i saw them advertised at target $2.99 for a 12oz(that's a double pack)pack

txrandom Dec 21, 2011 7:12 am

I'd rather have raspberries, but the blackberries are much cheaper right now.

sfo Dec 21, 2011 7:40 am

I love blackberry's and blackberry jam is my favorite. But I can never find fresh sweet tasting blackberry's here in Canada, don't know where they come from but they always have a sour bite to them, and I hate to put sugar on them to sweeten them up, because then they are no longer in their natural state. Blackberry's in Canada, at least in Vancouver are expenisve.

Thanks! I saw them at Giant for two for one when I was running in to pick up something a few days ago, but didn't stop to check the price.

Starwood Lurker Dec 27, 2011 12:46 pm

Well, the price went from 0.67 cents for a 5-oz. package to $1.50 locally, but the berries themselves remain large, sweet, and tasty.

Wow. I just bought the same pack at our Costco in IL for $4.99. Where are you located?

San Diego. Our Costcos normally get $4.99 for the 18 Oz blackberries, but over the past 4-6 weeks, they have dropped the price due to lots of supply.

Try Costco, just got some last week in Kelowna, so you should be able to get them as well - imported from Mexico.

wanderlustoz Jan 9, 2012 9:27 am

Saw reasonable priced ones at Trader Joes maybe 12 oz. for about us$4 or so.

Starwood Lurker Jan 9, 2012 11:44 am

They went down to $1 for a 5-oz. package last week, but are back up to $1.50 today. Still very good quality, however.

They were also terrific in the bowl of berries I had with breakfast at the Sheraton Stamford last Monday.

They've gone up to $2 a pint here locally though, so I've made the switch to South American peaches. :(
