In restaurants in Mexico I tip 10% if the service isn't particularly horrible. 15% if it's good or better. A bit more for fantastic.

Highly skilled labor, you. ^

Sorry to take it OT, but I've never understood the concept of tipping more for a more expensive bottle of wine (i.e., you pay a percentage of the bill as the tip). Kind of the same way that you pay more in fuel surcharges for a seat on BA in F than you do in Y. Same level of work, widely varying amounts.

Oh, I tip 18-20% at restaurants and don't drink wine, so I have no skin in the game.

Speaking to a server at XCaret.. he mentions its a boon to work as a waiter in the tourism restaurant industry.. its one of the best paying professions in the region, and lots of competition to work in tourism venues..

Well, that's hardly surprising, as there aren't a lot of other industries in Quintana Roo. Q.R. didn't even gain statehood until Cancun and the Riviera Maya really got going. I still remember the times when Q.R. was just a territory (B.C. Sur was just a territory as well back then).
