Preach it.

Trusted me and I can eat without spinach. I dislike to eat spinach. I am prefer to eat Lasagna with cheese.

If you go to Grocery store to buy a Lasagna in the freezer department.

My parents do this all of the time.. buy from a store and heat it up.. price per pound is the biggest factor.. not the quality..

I haven't seen to many restaurants giving the choice of spinach in the lasagna.. we've travelled quite a bit in the states, and haven't seen such choices..

Is it commonplace to see spinach in lasagna in the US?

Up until Mr. Kipper suggested it to me, I'd not heard of spinach being a major ingredient in meat lasagna. In veggie lasagna, yes.

notsosmart Aug 16, 2011 10:25 am

Traditional lasagna: absolutely not. Bolognese, besciamella, cheese. That's it.

But of course, so what? If you like spinach in it, but spinach in it. If you ike other veggies in it, put other veggies in it.

Best lasgna I ever made I included horse meat and finely chopped serrano ham. Not traditional, but so what? Everyone at the table loved it, and the women looked at me longingly (okay, it was my girlfriend). :D

Yes.. I agree.. Spinach can be an integral ingredient to Veggie Lasagna..

I'm wondering if Spinach is indeed a major ingredient in Meat Lasagna in the US? Because in Canada, I don't eat at establishments that do serve Spinach in its' Meat Lasagna.. nor have I frequented establishments in the States that do so neither..

I don't think it is. I think Mr. Kipper is just wrong about spinach being in meat lasagna. :)

For a sec.. I thought I was eating a substandard restaurants.. who should be adding Spinach onto their meat lasagna.. and don't.. even though its some sort of regional acceptance requirement..

Its good to know, that I'm not missing the boat when eating at Italian establishments..

LOL, nope, not in my experiences.

With!

I personally do not prefer spinach in meaty lasagna. Though I do love spinach mixed in with cheese such as veggie lasagna.

Thufir Hawat Aug 18, 2011 9:52 pm

Perhaps I'm a bit biased from memories of my mother's homemade lasagna, but spinach in meat lasagna? No thank you.

Ancien Maestro Aug 18, 2011 11:08 pm

Brings back memories of Popeye and Garfield..

Spinach makes you strong.. just squeeze the spinach can!.. and eat that lasagna..:)

But it was always intended this way ..... don't forget that alongside Popeye was always Olive Oil!! So I guess Lasagne was always the cunning plan.

No spinach. To me it only changes the colour and has relatively little impact on taste.

I know that this is sacrilege. But I've given up on the lasagne palaver. I mix cooked fettucine with my sofrito/tomato/meat sauce and cover it with a layer of very cheesy bechemel and then bake. Terrible I know but I prefer a mix that contains red leicester. We much prefer this to lasagne even though I know it isn't.

Well, it's baked pasta isn't it? So if you like it, and you're happy, it's just as good! :D

Damnit, I need to avoid this forum. Getting hungry already.

Oh dear ..... I feel sorry for anyone who has to carefully schedule lunch. It's starts shortly after one gets up and starts to think about it ..... and extends to sometime after the last coffee and before one slumps.

LOL, I'm meeting Mr. Kipper for lunch. It's our standard Friday lunch date. :) He usually doesn't work on Fridays, so he meets me for lunch. It's our way of taking a little "us" time on otherwise crazy days.

Today, I'll go back to work, he'll go run a few errands, including picking up baseball tickets, and then will go to an dentist appointment, and after that, he'll stop at home, grab a few things, and head to visit with his parents until tomorrow evening.

Good thing Garfield is a cartoon character.. would have set a world record the way Garfield sometimes downs the pasta..

Forgot about Olive Oil.. I always thought Popeye was a cartoon character created to teach kids to eat Spinach..

Almost a perfect day .... but it needs work. It's a shame that so many other things cluttered up his and your day - that sensibly had lunch at the center of it.

Forget about making a shrine to breakfast. Dinner is for sissies who pretend to work during the day. Lunch is what all of life is about. It can if you plan it well - it can extend from darkness to darkness and fill the day.

The only thing that stopped it today was cricket. But that's ok.

:)

My breakfast is usually an on-the-go meal. I enjoy our Friday lunches, in part because it pulls me out of work for a bit.

No.. not yet..

We baliffed a video store as landlords a year ago.. I'll slip into the store and see if we've got it, as we've got staff in there running the place.. but I'm probably not going to hold my breath..

I think we have other Garfield movies though.. and 14,000 other movies:rolleyes::)

We've come up with a great compromise, thanks to an amazing Secret Santa present this year. It's a pan that has 3 separate trays, each one just the width and length of a lasagna noodle. Dinner tonight was meat lasagna, meat with spinach lasagna, and veggie lasagna. Very good, and very easy to pack leftovers for lunch for the week!

That divided pan is a VERY good idea! How deep is the pan?

I usually put in a layer of spinach when I make lasagne.

I don't have it in front of me to measure, but it's very deep. I'd guess probably 2-3 inches deep. It came with a spatula that is apparently custom-designed for the pan, so it fit perfectly. :)

Ah! I think it's the one I saw online. I may just have to get one. Thanks!

For those who use ricotta in lasagne, how do you keep it from getting "grainy'?

I love it!!! I think I may make more this weekend.

I add egg and mix extremely well.

hedur Jan 21, 2012 7:48 pm

All the layers of meat, cheese, and pasta are crying out for some spinach. Not only for nutrients but for color.

With. No question. :D

FlyersFan617 Jan 25, 2012 7:59 am

With the green!

With the Spinach is definitely better!

vmsea Jan 26, 2012 2:20 am

You can put spinanch in.. it's just a SPinanch lasagna..
not a traditional one..

you can put carrot and brussel sprouts in too.. and call it something else..
but not traditional lasagna ..

So, traditional lasagna is no veggies? :D

I'm amazed at the number of people who add spinach. Honestly, until Mr. Kipper mentioned adding it, I'd never heard of people adding spinach to lasagna unless they were making spinach or veggie lasagna. :D

I will say that I am still madly in love with the lasagna pan from my Secret Santa, as the three channels make it very easy to do his and hers lasagna. :)

:D True. I guess I was looking for "authentic" lasagna. :D

Without!

I love spinach, prepared in many ways. I love lasagna. But the two do not mix!
