Strawberry, chocolate, vanilla … cicada?

If you're an adventurous diner, you might want to get yourself over to Sparky's Homemade Ice Cream in Columbia, Mo., to see if they have any leftover cicada ice cream. Yes, cicada as in the BUG. As in BUG ice cream.

Reminds me of that place that was serving breast milk ice cream.

Anyone remember that?

I know they eventually got shut down.

I know this sounds a bit dramatic, but I would sooner starve than eat an insect. I just cannot do it.

They say everyone eats a peck of dirt in his/her
lifetime. Probably a few insects, too. What's the
big deal?

YVR Cockroach Jun 18, 2011 12:32 pm

I am pretty sure U.S. food safety laws permits a small amount of insect parts in processed cereals. Think about it the next time you eat your favorite cereal.

At any rate, someone's pest (or pet) is someone else's delicacy.

Eating this flavor ice cream would definitely bug me.

a whole chocolate covered cicada?

no, thanks

those critters are huge, and these red eyes freak the hell out of me!

Which is why I don't live in the US anymore. :)

I know. I'm not criticising anyone for doing it. People can eat whatever the hell they want. I just can't eat an insect. It is a psychological block that I cannot (and frankly have no desire to) overcome.

I can and love to eat crickets, bee larvae, and anything along those lines..

But this may be a bit too much for me.. At least probably till I try it.. :D

I'm sure it (as it rodent droppings) is allowed under U.K./E.U. laws. Bit hard to get rid of those critters.

I was making a strawberry rhubarb pie today and was shifting some flour (improperly stored). Noticed something odd in it and picked out a hairy caterpillar-like object. I was just going to use the flour but my wife made be throw it and the rest that was in the container that it was stored in away.
