Long ago and far (well, not really), far away...
The cocktail lounge in the Warwick Hotel, NYC. Were it for no other reasons, the evening of October 22, 1962 and the resolution thereof, would tattoo the place indelibly in my memory. |
The Coq D'Or in the Drake in Chicago.
|
Roof Lounge at theWit in Chicago....for the view, ambiance. Also, the Bar at the Peninsula Chicago.
|
Don't know about now, but in the 70s The Long Bar at Raffles in Singapore was way cool. Friend of mine went to a pay phone and called the hotel to ask for himself, just so he could be paged in the Long Bar. ^
Also, the poolside bar at the Marmont Hotel in Subic City, PI made some great margaritas. And the scenery was stunning!!! |
Nice idea for a thread. I'll add some more:
-King Cole Bar at the St Regis in NYC - very cool Max Parrish mural -Beach Bar at the W San Diego downtown - on the second floor with a sand floor and cabanas -Eiffel Tower Bar at Paris, Las Vegas - great views of the strip -Bar at the Ladera Resort, St Lucia - sitting outside with a bottle of Caribe overlooking the Pitons -Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans - brings new meaning to 'one more round' -St-Laurent Bar at the Fairmont le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City - excellent terrace with views of the St Lawrence -Round Robin at the Willard in DC - original home of lobbyists and one of the power bars in the US capital. |
Oh yeah, second the motion on the Carousel Bar in Hotel Monteleone. Two rounds = two Sazeracs = nap time!
|
Bar at Plaza Athenee in Paris
Bar at Hotel du Louvre also in Paris (small intimate bar) |
Eastern Standard at the Hotel Commonwealth in Boston. Great atmosphere, great drinks, never eaten here though.

For me, it's the Bar 505 at the Hyland Sofitel in Shanghai and Torii Bar of the Hotel Nikko Dusseldorf.
Both are refuges in otherwise drab and unattractive areas and offer a welcome resting place for winding down or informal meetings. Bar 505 is notably French in it's offerings while Torii obviously is geared towards Japanese taste. And I don't mind either...:) |
Club Felix in the Hong Kong Peninsula.
Go for the view from the men's room at night |
Another from long ago (and likely not near as nice today)...
The bar at the Gran Ancira Hotel in Monterey, Mexico (into which -in legend at least - Pancho Villa once rode his horse). Incidentally, Pancho Villa was reputed to be a teetotaler. |
