So is white meat (chicken, pork) allowed?

When we were kids' my mother (traditional Catholic) would fast, but she would make a simple non-meat meal for the rest of the family, such as cheese enchiladas or chilaquiles.

Not sure what being religious has to do with it. Perhaps being a practicing Catholic is more accurate?

I am religious, Reformed Christian, and we eat whatever we please. I choose to eat a normal breakfast and lunch. Then I fast until sunrise on Sunday morning.

Sauteed eggplant slices stacked with layers of spiced goat cheese, and topped with Putenesca sauce.

Clams stir-fried with Thai basil and chile sauce.

Pasta with sauteed sweet pepper and peperoncini.

Actually, I'd eat fried moose doots if they were topped with Mrs. Scubadiver's putenesca sauce.

MMmmm, chilaquiles.

Last "Good Friday" meal for me was vegetarian-style pinto beans and Spanish rice with a corn tortilla.

Pork on Good Friday is not Kosher..... ;)

PresRDC Apr 7, 2010 3:25 pm

At Notre Dame, they used to not serve any meat on Lenten Fridays (including removing the bacon bits from the salad bar, which are not, technically, meat). These Fridays wouldbe the only time that they would serve grilled cheese sandwiches, which were really good. As such, most of us ended up looking forward to Lenten Fridays in order to get grilled cheese.

Being entirely secular, I didn't even know the Friday before Easter was called "Good Friday" until I was an adult.

Needless to say, I have no particular dietary restrictions for any particular dates, unless you count avoiding restaurants on certain holidays where they are mobbed (Mother's, Valentine's, and for those few that are open then, Thanksgiving.)

Always pasta as an adult.
I was forced to eat tuna sanwiches throughout lent as a child and will never forgive my parents!!! :)

BamaVol Apr 20, 2010 9:32 pm

Grandma BamaVol's egg salad was the usual.
