Favorite After Dinner Drink/Cordial you are too embarassed to admit you like?

While in the company of others, I usually order a dessert wine or I have another glass of red wine that was served during the meal.

While I am dining at home or in the privacy of a hotel room, I usually like a glass of Disaronno Amaretto straight up after my meal.

How about you?

VanMan Mar 14, 2010 4:42 am

Not too embarrassed, but I like a Grappa.

95% of the time its a cup of black tea. Not really sure if I have an embarrasing indulgence for after dinners.

Not embarassed to say I am a long time and varied drinker of cordials and cognacs: now I am drinking limoncello. I would be embarassed to drink Port wine though.

ssanto8403 Mar 15, 2010 7:05 am

I love a little Bailey's after dinner.

tfjim Mar 15, 2010 10:14 pm

Is there something intrinsically embarrassing about after dinner drinks that I'm missing?

If you've got $50 go out and buy a bottle of Conde de Osbourne Brandy de Jerez (spanish solera gran reserva brandy). If there is anything better for that on this God's green Earth I'd like to know...

Why is drinking Port wine embarrassing?

I think the point is that such a large number of them fall into the "let's make something really sweet and they'll drink gallons of it" category.

Mrs. Milepig has recently discover Disaronno and I know we'll have a bottle in the house at any moment.

I'm a grappa guy myself, or a good Scotch is always welcome.

I've started really liking campari/soda's..None of my friends do, but I just dig them. I freely admit the inspiration was the TV show Mad Men.

CMK10 Mar 16, 2010 7:25 pm

Either a Bailey's on the rocks or rarely, an Amaretto on the rocks.

In January my Dad ordered me a glass of Remy Martin, which I couldn't even finish. Now that's embarassing.

Most --meaning any one--on icecream after dinner.

If I have some best male friends over and they continue to drink beer after dinner is through, I sure as heck would not be breaking out the Disaronno and asking, "Would you all care for a glass?"

LizzyDragon84 Mar 17, 2010 1:24 pm

I don't know what's embarassing about after-dinner drinks either, but I'm fond of Baileys on the rocks (and some of my friends like that too).

Well that says a few things in order of importance:
  • Change after-dinner drinks you serve to something better (Disaronno:confused:)
  • Serve better dinner ;)
  • Find better friends :D

dd992emo Mar 21, 2010 7:57 pm

I love a B & B, but it's kind of a pansy drink...:D

firstclassking Mar 23, 2010 12:29 pm

I'm all for the Bailey's after dinner. It's a great cool down drink

TMOliver Mar 23, 2010 12:55 pm

Nasty old habit....

Sambuca con Mosca

More often these days.....

Grappa (or when available Palinka), a sweetened (Splenda) Espresso anda big twist of lemon peel.

At home (Winter).....

Coffee with a tot of one of the "Heavy" Spanish Brandies stirred in.

At home (Warmer weather)....

Really ghastly gasp from the past, a "Stinger" over crushed ice.

At home (Summer)....

Navy Rum and fresh lime juice over ice.

BearX220 Mar 23, 2010 1:30 pm

What's wrong with drinking port after dinner?

I will also pound Sambuca until they confiscate the bottle. ^

sylvia hennesy Mar 23, 2010 1:34 pm

I like a pony of Grand Marnier, or any knock-off thereof; however,

"Conde de Osbourne Brandy de Jerez"

sounds intriguing; is it worth $50 for 750 ml?

is there a less expensive tasty triple orange, or cognac blend, or brandy knock off out there someone wants to divulge?

My wife says the same thing too

rbittar Jul 13, 2010 10:49 pm

Port wine ...Adriano Ramos Pinto, maybe?

stimpy Jul 14, 2010 2:15 am

Depending on the crowd, I might be embarrassed to order Louis XIII de Rémy Martin. But I sure would enjoy the taste!

In France I have an Armagnac after dinner and in Italy I look for a good Grappa.

For me a fine Port is a more of a pre-bed drink than an after dinner drink. That stuff is like Nyquil. ;)

BamaVol Jul 14, 2010 10:47 am

I like a Baileys on the rocks or a Limoncello. In fact, I've been in 2 restaurants that would not allow us to leave until we'd had a limoncello cordial (Naples & Buenos Aires).

I'm also a fan of Vandermint or Drambuie in the cool weather.

I'm only a little embarrassed.

stimpy Jul 14, 2010 11:00 am

I should mention that I do love Limoncello, but only homemade. I'm spoiled by the fantastic Limoncello made by friends in Aosta and can't drink storebought. :p

jujubean71 Jul 14, 2010 11:07 am

I'm trying to figure out if I should be embarrassed by any of the after dinner drinks I've ordered:

Bailey's, coffee with Bailey's, another glass of wine, another pint of beer, another vodka tonic, water, tea, ice cream drinks ... I'm not picky, really.

Well, it's fine for a trou normand :D, not sure about it as an after dinner drink.
