Wor Wonton soup=help?
I am looking for a great Wor Wonton and am wondering if my quest is futile.
Years ago while living in SF I used to get great wor wonton soup which had many goodies in it including shrimp balls and sliced fishcake as well as the usual BBQ pork, shrimp, chicken, choy sum and wontons. Her in LA I just cannot find good won ton soup. Is there a name for "deluxe" wonton soup? Tia for your help. |

Maybe what I am looking for is NOT authentic?
Trust me I know where to look for"authentic"(sometimes a little too authentic )chinese food around here. |
Try Chinatown in SFO.. you might be able to find what you're looking for trying there. Just a little bit of advice to help you get going there.
BTW, Chinatown won ton soup does not compare very well to its superior soup -- wor won ton soup in China (I've had the large bowl version and boy is it yummier as the dumplings used aren't as big as the ones in california!) Sanosuke! |
never mind.

Depending on your choice of stuffing and preferences, there are so many varieties of authentic Chinese wonton soups. I think you are referring to Cantonese style wonton with Chinese BBQ (叉燒) in the soup.
If you can't find what you like in Little Taipei or any other Chinatowns in LA, you may also try Do-It-Yourself. :p

There are too many good ones in LA. The issue is you have to read Chinese to find them.
There is one near Vally/San Gabriel aty Alhambra, and they serve war won ton. Har Lam Kee Restaurant at 168B E Garvey Ave, Montery Park is known for their Cantonese won ton soup. Even the chain Sam Woo BBQ or Phoenix serve decent won ton. |
