Applications suspended 11.13.2014 for a "couple weeks".

Harris Bank is now accepting applications for two new consumer Diners Club MasterCards. There is no new account bonus or annual fee waiver. This thread discusses the cards benefits and rewards. Please click HERE to discuss the application process.

Premier $95 annual fee, $35 additional cards, EMV, No foreign transaction fee, Primary CDW, Airport lounge access, $1 = 1 point on all spending.

Elite $300 annual fee, $150 additional cards, EMV, No foreign transaction fees, Primary CDW, Trip Cancellation / Interruption reimbursement, Airport lounge access, $1 = 3 points for grocery stores, supermarkets, drug stores, pharmacies and automobile fuel service stations when you pay at the pump, $1 = 1 point otherwise.

Diners Club Rewards airline and hotel transfer partners are discussed in THIS thread.

Many of the card travel benefits are listed in the Promotions section of the website.

A form to request cards for Authorized Users is HERE.
A form to setup Automatic Payments is HERE.

Differences between the legacy Professional cards and the new Consumer cards:
  • Card type. Professional = charge card; Consumer = credit card
  • Foreign transaction fees. Professional 3%; Consumer 0.
  • CDW vehicle value cap. Professional = $75,000 (Diners) or $100,000 (Carte Blanche); Consumer = $50,000
  • Other insurance. On cursory examination there appears to be differences in the carriers and terms of the other coverages. The Consumer coverages may be a standard package arranged by MasterCard, while the Professional coverages may be inherited from Citi. Someone would need to read carefully side-by-side to find the differences.

Mint.com and PersonalCapital.com does NOT currently work with this card however I have confirmed that they will add it once they receive at least 5 requests to do so. So, for those that have the card and use these sites please send a support ticket asking them to add "Diners Club International" at the URL: https://www.bmoharriscreditcards.com...sumer/Login.do . ^

I still have my Elite card but I am thinking that Citi Prestige is much better and cheaper for lounge access. I am not sure if i should pay for both. After my last lounge visit in London i was charged $27 for my daughter. I would not have been charged if i used Citi Prestige instead of DC. i am undecided.

I have Citi Prestige too... After $250 flight credit, it is a $100 AF card for higher TYP redemption rate on AA. I will probably keep it. As far as DC Elite, I am really not sure... it is good card with true PIN security. I paid off $300 AF with points and the rest of points were either transferred to Marriott for LTP or redeemed as tailored travel credits... Will decide next month...

If it's PIN you're after, there are a couple of other options. They're going to require that you join a credit union (UNFCU/First Tech FCU), however, and the best rewards they'll offer you are statement credits/cash back for the most part. IMO Diners Club is still the best/only "true" chip and PIN option for those who prefer points over cash.

But honestly, chip and signature (with a PIN backup) is probably fine the vast majority of the time. "True" chip and PIN is nice as a convenience though.

I was convinced they would open up again for new consumer card apps today (December 1). Seemed like relevant timing based on when they closed them last year. Alas, it looks like more of the same and not allowing new apps. Too bad, as I am ready to go.

This note still appears on the website:

Our Consumer card application is unavailable while we make improvements

While we work to improve the application process, the option to apply for our two Consumer cards: Diners Club Card Elite or a Diners Club Card Premier is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I don't think one needs to "wonder" much at this point.

After logging into my Professional account the other day, I saw a notice about something that might affect some users that was going to happen in Oct 2016. So BMO is obviously not fastiduous with removing outdated notices from the Diners club website. They apparently "like" to leave an expired notice there instead of having no notice there.

They'll bring it back when the Browns win the Super Bowl.

No, you've got it wrong.

They'll bring when the Super Bowl is permanently cancelled.
