Lightbulb Updated Delta Award Travel Blackout Dates (KE, CI, MU, AE) for all of 2012

As I was looking for this for myself, I thought I'd share with all, yet again clearly formatted, instead of the jumble of text as it appears online.

I have condensed the blackout dates even further.

KE, CI, MU, AE: Too darn often!

I do understand for MU why Chinese New Year, Mid Autumn Festival, National Day, and May Day are excepted, though.

Whats the point of being partners with these darn airlines if they have so many blackout dates? ...goodness

MU has gotten better, as there are no blackout dates listed for 2012 yet (and hopefully there won't be any). With KE, the situation is more complicated. What's going on is that KE is charging SkyPass members a higher rate for certain types of flights during certain periods, and thus they're not available to partners. However, sometimes this blackout applies only to domestic Korean flights, but DL blacks out the long-haul ones, too. See this chart. If DL IT were more sophisticated, it would just recognize the flight number ranges that were inaccessible and make them that way during the right periods. For instance, I couldn't get SYD-ICN-LHR on 23 December on KE, even though it wouldn't be at the higher rate if I were using SkyPass miles. (Wanted to stay in Oz a bit longer any way, but might have come back earlier on KE if I could to save the $320 in MH YQ I had to pay.)

Thanks for summing that up mate. Just these AZN carriers piss me off a bit with their blackout dates, ya know? Same thing happens on oneworld with JAL...I just hope DL blocks the same dates from KE mile users from redeeming when they block us.

Considering that DL blocks us from having access to most inventory, I don't think they need to do anything special to keep it away from KE members.

MU no longer has blackout dates. I suspect they just do what DL does and conveniently set award availability to zero during the busier travel times. That is easier, after all, and doesn't look as bad. (Though no one is as bad as DL, where many routes for full 1-331 days out 0 seats available at low in either class, not even one seat on one day in a low in either class for full 331 days. So, still, none of these are nearly as bad as DL is, that's my point.)

DL has more "blackout dates" if you consider that they just set availability to zero. Same difference but they can tout "NO BLACKOUT DATES."

Exactly!

And I wonder what percentage of DL flights are at 0 seats available for all 331 days out in either class of service for low awards. Now THAT would be a good statistic to have.

That, and also what % of flights are WHITE-OUT'ed, which means, available for revenue sale, but not available for awards at even high mileage. From my experience, seems to be that some 5-15% of flights are white-out'ed. Which is the same as black out dates, it just is not published and apperas as white in the award calendar: for example, three daily flights, all available for revenue, but for award for 2, sometimes even 3 consecutive weeks, not a single seat at any mileage level available. If that is not black (sorry, white) out dates, I don't know what is.

Just Dullta is being its usual sleazy and underhanded about it, and is lying no blackout dates, when it clearly has some -- it just does not publish them.

With all due respect I disagree. There are already too many stickies on the DL forum. In fact, they often get passed over then people ask questions that can be found in the stickies!
