Lightbulb DL operates 763 extra to MCI

Just saw the 763 sitting on the tarmac. Anyone know what this is about? Perhaps a charter? I wonder if this is a regular occurrence. In any case, it's a nice change of pace for this airport!

Did you happen to look at the FlightAware link you posted? Didja notice the part about Baltimore?

It was the KC Chiefs returning home from their game Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Duh, of course! I even watched the highlights on KCTV from my hotel room last night. Sometimes it's hard to put 2 and 2 together when I stopped caring about football years ago. Thanks, guys!

But that does beg the question, do the Chiefs (or other teams) usually use a plane that large? To keep this DL-specific, does DL often charter 767s to teams? I recall seem to recall basketball teams using 737s. Guess football teams have more gear as well as more players and staff?

The charter was for Baltimore, which always flies on a 767. New England, Green Bay, Seattle also use DL widebodies.

Yes, some of those guy don't fit in just one seat.

I've seen DL 767s on the tarmac at STL for sports charters; normally DL runs nothing larger than a 737 or MD-xx to STL.

As do the New Orleans Saints.

Oakland Raiders had a Hawaiian widebody when I was @ MCI last time.

Since the game was in Baltimore, suspect the Ravens players just drove from home.

Most of the NFL teams use DL for their charters and most of them also use the 767-300. Some NFL teams will use a 757-200 but most use the 763.

This gave me something to do during lunch:

Looks like the Vikings use a Northwest (Delta?) 757

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/NWA9964

And the Cowboys an American Airlines 757

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAL9404

The Broncos a United 767

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL9902

Jacksonville a Delta 767

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL9828

And now its back to work....
