As New York remembered the 9/11 attacks, a man with a loaded handgun tried to board a Delta Airlines flight at LaGuardia Airport, authorities said.

Never to bring the guns through at security. This is inappropriate for him. HE could go to jails for that. He could be pay the civilized penalties from TSA.

The likely situation is that there WILL be at least a serious penalty, +/- possible jail time. Even worse, will also likely be a permanent standing on the "no fly" list.

Michael Williams, 40, of Peachtree City, GA was arrested while trying to catch a Delta flight to Atlanta, a Port Authority police spokesman said. Williams told investigators he simply forgot the fully loaded 9-millimeter Smith and Wesson handgun was in his bag.
Grrrrreat. Here come more dumb Southerner jokes.

I got one for ya from today:

A soldier going on leave to STL decided to check 2 live smoke grenades into his checked luggage.

Fun, huh?

Guess who had to deal with it all morning long....lucky me.

He wins the Darwin Award for my station today.

Nice to know you have these people at your station too.

We had a lady go thru security that got so mad for having to get screened that she stripped naked right there at the checkpoint. People are nuts!

Delta Darwins - Anyone? Anyone?

I think we should start a thread about Delta Darwins. These are the people who do stupid things like the guy attempting to go through security with a loaded gun or the military guy checking smoke grenades.

Seems there are some stories out there that could qualify and could be fun without harassing them directly.

Just an idea....

I'm betting that this was I day I'm glad I missed. Why can't super models go nuts at security when I'm there.

If he's still alive, he only qualifies for honorable mention. A Darwin recipient is someone who makes a substantial contribution to human evolution by becoming unable to reproduce.

Even Lawn Chair Larry only received honorable mention because he lived to tell his story:
(1982, California) Larry Walters of Los Angeles is one of the few to contend for the Darwin Awards and live to tell the tale. "I have fulfilled my 20-year dream," said Walters, a former truck driver for a company that makes TV commercials. "I'm staying on the ground. I've proved the thing works."

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. Several times I've had things that I left in the bag by accident that were found on the RETURN flight to ATL, but had to have been in there when I left. A mini leatherman or bottle of water burried in the bottom of the suitcase come to mind.
