Delta cleaning out clutter in your luggage?

I recently took a flight LAS - GRB on delta. While there were many problems with checkin, flights, times etc, which is none of my complaint or curiosity. I was unpacking today from the flight yesterday 9/7, I was looking for something I put in my front pocket of my luggage. For some reason I keep all my baggage tags and put them in that pocket, when I got to LAS i took the tag from Southwest and shoved it in, along with some clutter from my wallet which I didnt need in my wallet. When I went to school today, i remembered that my university ID was also in the pocket. Went to check it to pull it out today and found that the whole pocket, tags, ID and some other miscellaneous stuff is no longer there. I emailed delta from their website to complain. Im just wondering if anyone else has come across this in their travels? If they want to clean something out, they are more than welcome to detail my car. I had tags in there since I started flying, 7 years ago, while these have no value, the ID does. Any thoughts?

Sounds like your zipper came open and the stuff spilled out. I've seen this many times before.

There are huge stickey fingers in LAS IMHO. I had a bottle of Jack Daniels I had to check stolen from my luggage on LAS-JFK. I am not sure if it is DL or TSA, but DL ended up sending me a check for the stolen bottle. Not sure how they will compensate you, but an investigation should be done in LAS regarding theft from baggage.

I once carried 14kg of processed macadamia nuts and a transparent 1kg bag of powder salt from SJO via ATL to MUC. Guess... the salt was gone. Either TSA went ballistic about the well... yes... suspicious-looking stuff or somebody at ATL thought Santa has come this year and flogged it. I would really love to know whether some drug addicts got a bad-tasting surprise...

Delta cleaning out clutter in your luggage?

It's a new service funded by the checked baggage fee that you pay.

You think DL has time to go through your junk? Complain to TSA, they go through your bags. Did you lock it up? Airlines are not responsible for theft. If you needed it, you should have carried it on with you. Good luck.

Obviously, things could be stolen by DL baggage handlers and/or the TSA. Airline baggage handlers have been caught (entire rings of baggage handlers in some cases) stealing items from passengers' luggage. In fact, airlines ARE responsible for theft -- certain "valuable" items are, however, excluded.
