The OP posts of a simple change from a non-stop flight to service which requires a change of plane. U.S. federal law requires refunds be given for such a change in service or change in carrier.
Persons who can't get get a U.S. carrier, on a ticket purchased in the U.S.A., to issue a refund in these circumstances have poor communication skills, obviously.
