Delta iPhone App

Let me first say that I know DL has a Iphone Web App.

With Mobile Check in and the webapp...when is DL going to have a full fledged iPhone app? I know BA just won an award for the best iphone app out there. I feel like this would be something DL could benefit from.

That's cool... I didn't realize that they had a iPhone Web App. - Are we talking about a specific downloaded application that's available (if so, what it the name of the app), or just the fact that you can access Delta Mobile and Delta.com on your iPhone?

While the iPhone is a nice device and all. I think DL could make better use of their time than spend time developing an app for a phone that has 0.10% market share.

Apple

Heck, Blackberry has 2.8% share

It is not a download app, that is what i wish they had! :(

What you do is go to delta.com on your iphone >>> Hit the + on the bottom of the screen >>> Add to Home Screen >>> SAVE! it should have a little Delta Logo pop up.

All it does is take you to the webpage (iphone version) when you hit it. It is pretty nice and has a lot of features. I would not book flights on it as the prices are sometimes weird, but it is good for reference and such.

I think its share of FFs that matters.. that being said I totally agree with them making one for BB.. make it in Java and then you hit a good chunk of the smartphone market...

I noticed Delta's iPhone site back in December when I got stranded in JFK for a few hours. I haven't noticed any abnormalities in pricing - maybe I will attempt my next ticket purchase via iPhone.

I like the site quite a bit - much more than the old mobile site. That said, the iPhone site is still slightly buggy, especially the Skymiles summary page (my page currently says the mileage expires in 2520 and that I have no activity for the previous 12 months).

After a bit of research, I think Blackberries will be going the way of the Dodo and Pan-Am here within the next year. I expect the iPhone to get 99% market share in this time. Using this data, I think it would be wise for Delta to develop an iPhone application. For those of you who would be interested in analyzing my research, here are the numbers I've found.

===

Number of applications having to do with producing rude gastrointestinal noises:

Blackberry: 3
iPhone: Over 100

Number of applications which will send a photo to some random user in the world and let them respond with another photo:

Blackberry: 0
iPhone: 1

Number of applications which will emulate a theremin:

Blackberry: 0
iPhone: 1

I do not believe it is an iPhone app. It is a Mobile app. that works well with the iPhone. NWA has the same thing.

It's a bit more complicated than that. I'm not going to get into the technical details, but the BlackBerry Enterprise Server many large companies use presents a serious hurdle DL would have to overcome. A very large portion of the potential customer base would have this limitation.

Also, iPhone apps usually work on iTouch as well. Combined, they present a very large potential population. In particular if mobile check in continues.

Finally, I don't think majority of black berry's out there offer much in the way of UI where one couldn't just use a mobile web site. The iPhone/iTouch have some interesting UI concepts that couple be put to use with an app.

What you really need apps for are phones that don't have full web browser (the vast majority of phone on the network today) and phones that have touch sceen UIs. (Apple, Android, Latest Black Berry). If DL is seriously about mobile apps they would need to hire one of the two or three companies in the US that actually has the experience to create and port an app to hundreds of phones once. One of which is in MSP and is owned by a major avionics maker.

Actually, I was with a friend just last night and noticed that she had a delta icon on her iPhone "desktop"--as if it were an app. I had looked for a delta app through the app store and wasn't able to find anything, so I asked her how she got it. She said that her friend did it for her, so she didn't know.

I clicked the icon on her phone and it brought me to the new delta mobile website. So, I know that it can be done. The question is "how?"

Actually, it is a pretty easy thing to do. Go to safari and type in "www.delta.com. When it comes up as the mobile application, hit the "plus sign" at the bottom of the screen. One of the options that will pop up says " Add to home page". Click that and "BINGO!"

I just added it on my ITouch and never knew about this function for ANY web page until I read this thread, so thanks for asking!:D

To make the "APP" (which is really just an icon), use safari and navigate to http://mobile.delta.com. When loaded, press the plus sign on the bottom of the screen. Select "Add to Home Screen". Relabel the icon if you would like, then press "ADD" in the top right of the screen. THis will put the ICON on your pages and it will look like an APP. This works with any web page you can navigate too, so you can link to many things.

YOu can move the icons around on the page by pressing and holding an icon, then moving it. Press the circle button on the bottom of the IPOD/IPHONE when done.

I think DL could make better use of their time bringing their other technology up date, especially matching the features of nwa.com or mobile.nwa.com.

Being able to let upgraded NW customers use a kiosk or online check-in should be fixed before any iPhone apps are developed. Letting NW elites select preferred seats at delta.com should be another priority.
