Can't book Korean reward travel online

Why exactly can't I book a reward using Skymiles on the Delta website for a trip on their partner Korean Air?

It doesn't get to the existential 'why?,' but you can't book KE awards online at delta.com because KE isn't on this list:

Go to Award Ticket, where you can search for seat availability, book Award Travel reservations, and redeem your miles for Delta, Delta Connection® carriers, Continental Airlines, and Northwest Airlines. Additional Terms & Conditions apply.

I see that. It is like what my parents used to say when I asked why. They answered "because".

You can book KE flights on NWA.com (after transferring your DL miles). Keep in mind that NWA has higher mileage requirements for some KE flights than DL, and that NWA.com occassionally lists KE flights that aren't actually available. Or, you can call DL to find out that many of their agents haven't figured out how to see KE availability. Best in class frequent flier program, indeed!

NWA site wants to charge me a $150 fee for booking inside the 21 days in advance window. I booked on DL site with no fee (maybe because I am a PM?)... so I am tempted to call DL in this case where I want KE flights.

KE is not on this list either, but another place on delta.com has a list with a few more carriers than that:
Award Travel on delta.com is limited to travel on Delta, Delta Connection®, Continental, Northwest, Hawaiian, Alaska and Air France Airlines.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

Also bear in mind that KE has blackout dates and they are different ex US than ex Asia. This can make booking on KE very challenging if you're not flexible.

Good point.
NW lists them here: http://www.nwa.com/worldperks/earn/b...s.shtml#korean

The blackout dates might explain why I get an error message when I try to book Korean travel though NW.com. It shows the availability, but when you actually go to book it, it says you need to call NW directly.

And that list is outdated too. KL was added some time ago.

Award Tickets are now available on the Online Award Calendar at delta.com for travel on KLM Airlines, in addition to Continental, Northwest Airlines, Hawaiian, Alaska, Air France and Delta.

I just booked 3 award tickets about a week ago by calling the reservations line. ICN -> BKK RT in business class for 30k skymiles each. Some agents will allow you to hold the reservation for 48 hours while others will insist you book instantly if you have the miles available. I then completed the booking online saving the "live person" fee when I got the 48 hour hold.

That's one of last year's 'enhancements' to telephone bookings.
