It doesn't say in article, but if I remember correctly, there is a heavy fine associated with popping the door. Not withstanding a trip to the loony bin, or jail, for this guy

He probably saw the monster that hangs out on the wing just like the Twilight Zone episode and he decided to go after it! - folks, if you have not seen this episode of Twlight Zone here it is for your entertainment - compliments of Youtube!:

Here is the bizzare part. The main character in the Twilight Zone movie who sees the monster is 37 years old and man in the news story (January 20, 2009) who arrived in Phoenix from Salt Lake City and walked out on the wing is also 37 years old.

That is one of my favorite TZ episodes... starring none other than Captain Kirk... guess he figured talking or shooting at aliens in the far future wasn't that big of a stretch when you start your career by seeing a gremlin tearing up the port engine.

Great, now there will be another question when you try to book an emergency seat:

- Are you over 18...

- Can you open a 35 lb door...

- Do you speak english...

....

- Are you certifiable?

- Are you a Twilight Zone fan?...
- Do you identify with William Shatner on a regular basis?...
- Is there a monster in your closet trying to kill you?....
- A train leaves New York at 70 mph. At the same time...

If the passenger TRULY thought there was an emergency, such as smelling smoke or SEEING something wrong, is he guilty of a crime? The instructions on the emergency exit only says "for use only in an emergency" but never qualifies the word. The word emergency can subject to impretation. Also the door exits never says "check with a crew member first."

I wasn't there, so I can't comment on if he is guilty or not.

Maybe he was worried about whether he could make a 60 minute connection, and failed to create a thread on FT prior to his trip. That could clearly put a passenger into a emergency situation.

I would think that if there was smoke, or some other real emergency, the other passengers would have been out there with him, and he would not have been arrested. I'm going to stick with the original premise that the guy was nuttttss, even though I wasn't there either. Takes better facts to get the benefit of a doubt from me.

Are you upset about the addition of this question b/c you will have to answer "Yes" and thus be disqualified? j/k
