DL now operating NW 744s ATL/HNL
What a pleasant surprise. The 747-400s I fly on NW from HNL are now headed east as well. As of 17 Jan 2009, DL's tired 763s are replaced by 747-400s. The equipment is sort of "wet leased".... NW equipment, NW crews, but seats sold only by DL. Check-in at DL, of course. I'll probably see some familiar FAs, since I bet the crews are HNL based.
The downside: DL prices compared to NW prices.
Honolulu, HI to Atlanta, GA
Carrier
Flight # Departs Arrives Equipment
Type Flight
Duration Miles
From Time To Time
Delta 802 Honolulu (HNL) 3:15pm Atlanta (ATL) 5:35am Boeing 747-400 8.20 4502
Total miles: 4502
Miles shown are between the origin and final destination city and are not used for the calculation of SkyMiles.

Unless you're in F, the 744 Y cabin is just are tired, if not more. F is a lie flat J seats, which are excellent of course.

I just booked, ticketed, and upgraded a round trip, 3 May out and 16 May back. The call center rep said it was effective 17 Jan. 2009. It doesn't show in NW skeds or on the NW site, but it does show on the DL site. I asked the agent, "So this equipment is operating today?" She said, "Yes."

It's **so** unusual for Bangalore (or wherever the call center is) to be wrong about operations.
I used miles for the upgrade. 15,000 each way. Way better than 15,000 to u/g HNL/LAX. As all know, no comp u/gs to Hawaii.

Thanks!
Thanks for posting this. I've been waiting for the change to take place. I just called to put us in the upper deck for our May Trip. I was even able to (finally) get a K fare with a PMU and redeposit the 112,500 miles I originally used to book a first class seat.
Should be a lot more comfortable in Business Class than in First on the 767!

I just booked this. April 7th there and 8th back. This is to get the chance to fly on the upper deck of the 747 and to my favorite domestic airport.
