Checking a bag with EK at DL

I am booked ATL-DXB on DL and then DXB-PEK on EK it's an 8 hour layover in Dubai. The information I was provided on the EK forum was that Delta would be able to check the bag to PEK. Is this a sure fire way to have our bags lost when we arrive in PEK?

DL & EK's checked baggage policy is different on each carrier. If I check the bag with DL to PEK will EK baggage policy be followed?

All Airlines use the same baggage routing coding standard. It really doesn't make a difference whether you are connecting DL->DL or DL->EK. As long as you are not connecting in LHR or CDG your luggage is safe.
As for the checked baggage policy: I would assume the rules of the airline that recives the luggage will apply (i.e. DL flying to PEK, EK on the return).
