E Class -- Ever Used

On ExpertFlyer, I see a lot of flights with E7. From the FAQ, E shows:

+Coach travel, promotional / contest awards no mileage accrual,
+no upgrades. Also used for SkyBonus (the company version of
+SkyMiles) awards

Why would there be 7 (or more) of these? Seems like they would be used infrequently?

7 is just how many they are willing to "sell" from that bucket. So if you see E7 on an MCO flight, and a family of four who won a radio contest featuring 4 round-trip DL tix (from E bucket) to Orlando wanted on that flight, they could get on. If two families of 4 wanted on, it wouldn't happen since there are only 7 available. But you probably already knew all of that.

So to answer your question...Since they're relatively rare and used infrequently, maybe DL can be a little more liberal with them without ruining the bottom line.
