Exclamation New Mileage Tiers - More Info

From the WSJ:

"Delta also plans to increase the number of "tiers" in its SkyMiles plan this spring. Instead of offering domestic tickets for either 25,000 or 50,000 miles -- with many more tickets available for 50,000 miles -- the airline will offer 50% of its total seat inventory for 40,000 miles, while maintaining the same amount of seats in the 25,000-mile tier. Most remaining seats will fall into the 60,000-mile tier."

if it's "More Info," then why wasn't it posted in an existing thread. wouldn't it be easier to keep all of the information in one place/thread?

My understanding is that there will be 3 domestic tiers:
25,000
40,000
60,000

That is how I read it too, but it isn't making much sense to me. I would have thought 25 being skysaver, 50K being skychoice... however with the large % of seats at 40K and the "most of the remaining at 60K" that sounds to me like SkyChoice is 60K.

I'm anxious to get the word from DL on this one.

Interesting how its "most of the remaining at 60K" also... so that means you'll pay more miles for SkyGouge (formerly skychoice) but still not have last seat availability.
And I wonder what 50% of inventory means... good up to Q bucket?

My interpretation is that any seat will be available for 60k (like old SkyChoice), while you can get a seat for 40k if less than 50% of seats on the aircraft are sold, and you get nothing for 25k.

I suspect it won't be long until delta puts a letter up here that dumbs down the truth, and assumes we can't read through the BS. Guarantee this will be marketed to us as a benefit.

Oh you might get something at 25k... just not to anywhere you'd want to go, or on any half decent routing!

Where did you get that from? The number of 25,00 mile seats will remain the same. I find them quite easy to find if I am flexible, so that should mean there will continue to be plenty of availablility at 25k.

This 'information' could have gone here quite nicely:

Delta has already stated that there will be 3 award tiers.....not 4.

The current SkyChoice award level (such as the 50K award) is being replaced by 2 new levels........one requiring fewer miles but offering a bit less availability (possibly tied to a specific fare bucket)....and one requiring more miles but offering much more availability (possibly 'any bookable seat').

On a side note.......I just noticed that award itineraries which include Alaska and/or Horizon flights are now bookable via Delta.com.

IMO, that is a VERY good thing.

So ask a Mod to merge.

IMO, this is fresh and adding to the old thread which has lots of other info and blabber in it will only cause lots of wading.

Yes, we'll see if that changes with the intro of the 40k fares.
