At the risk of repeating a point that most bashers seem to prefer to ignore:
PLANES HAVE TO REPAINTED IN INTERVALS ANYWAY, IT DOESN'T COST DELTA ANY ADDITIONAL MONEY.
And in case anyone is interested in the new livery:

Just saw the picture on A.net and I love it! They've finally gotten rid of "typewriter" font (which I detested). The new font and all-caps recalls the old DELTA (as in "FLY DELTA JETS"). The rich red widget on a dark blue background looks very classy. I also like the way they allow the widget to "bleed" off the edge of the tail, rather than distort it to fit the tail (that was one thing I didn't care for on the "classic" livery). About the only thing I don't care for is the widget "pointing" upward and to the left (or right, I suppose, if you're on the other side of the aircraft). it's too gimmicky and reminiscent of NWA's "compass" pointer. I'd rather see the widget in "normal" orientation and bleeding off the edges of the tail.
Overall, I think it's fantastic! A very classy look! Should go very well with other service improvements, like Delta Suites on long-haul flights, the new uniforms, etc.

Trust me on this one...

Someone should tell DL, even though the planes are Boeing, the livery doesn't have to be Boring.

I think it has a very sharp, contemporary look and is certainly indicitive of a new beginning for Delta. Burgundy is a very classy color and there is lot DL can do with these new color combinations. It's a radical change and thus, will take some getting used to, but I can tell that it will grow on me.

While I agree in theory on some of the design principles talked about here, I would have much rather preferred something slightly different.
I'm personally not a fan of the two-tone widget, altho I do understand how it adds depth and refresh while trying to keep a classic logo in place (ala apple as canarsie has said).
Also - the underbelly and blue swirls around the plane are just awkward.
Also not a fan of the logo-type. I'll reserve complete judgement till it's on the planes but as of right now, I personally would like to start a "keep this logo off delta" campaign. J/K.

...and the “widget” is in at least two different tones of the burgundy-red color to evoke a three-dimensional look, as if the darker half of the “widget” is actually the shadow.
I have a feeling the bottom of the widget, if it were in view, may have a third shade of the burgundy-red color to further evoke the illusion of a three-dimensional “widget” — a “relief” look, to be more specific.

Interesting that in the thread on a.net, instead of being a contentious battlefield, there is 99% agreement- almost everyone hates it.

I far prefer "Colors In Motion" to this. They should stick that that until they come up with something better. I hope this color scheme doesn't make its may into skymiles cards and gate displays. n
ATL will suddenly go butt ugly overnight

I just dont see how this is in line with the new marketing look of the ticket jackets, ads, signage, etc. that has been rolled out recently. Im almost in disbelief that this is what the creative design team came up with...it looks gloomy and unfinished. (which Im hoping it is, at least the latter!)
