Great Mileage Run

Want to pick up about 6000 MQM's, 12000 miles, visit the Land of Great Food and do it all for $299 plus taxes?

If you are in the States, run, do not walk, to www.alitalia.com and book a flight from Boston, Chicago, Miami or New York to anyone of 16 Italian cities.

Book your flight BEFORE FEB 4, fly before Feb 28, and make sure you have a Saturday night in Italy.

The MQM's will be determined by the route you choose, but if you fly MIA-FCO you'll collect 5185 and you can add another 750 by tacking on Venice, Verona, Pisa, or one of a number of other spots.

Think of it: You can enjoy Valentine's Day with your wife in Romeo and Juliet's hometown! Or, you can enjoy it even more by leaving your wife at home and taking your secretary!

Anyone wishing to borrow the UIG in Italy on Valentine's Day is welcome to give it his best shot -- but only because she is in Israel right now and will be for most of the month.

How do you figure 12,000 miles?

I am unable to get ORD-FCO-VCE return to generate 6000MQMs - How did you manage that ?

That sounds like a decent fare sale to Italy but a poor mileage run.

You can pick up 6000 MQM's for a lot less hassle and not much more money. Now that MQM segments are 750 miles minimum, you can book an "A" fare with a connection on both outbound and return.

With this, you will be in a more comfortable seat, enjoying a beverage and traveling during regular waking hours. ATL-MKE through CVG is about $450 for 6000 MQM's. ATL-SFO (talk about great food!) through CVG is about $560 for over 11000 MQM's.

And with the "A" fares, if you change your mind, they are changeable and refundable.

"And with the "A" fares, if you change your mind, they are changeable and refundable"

"A" Fares are rarely refundable. Changable, yes, refundable no, in my experience.

FWIW, I just re-checked the rules for an “A“ fare and the DL website states the following regarding refunds:

25 - TICKETS ARE REFUNDABLE WITHOUT PENALTY

Depends on the route. For example:

BOS-hub-HNL = non-refundable.
BOS-SLC = refundable.

I too thought the same, but while booking 'A' fares for ATL-LAS, ATL-SJC or SFO, I found the tkts all changeable and refundable, with no penalty. Called the phone agent, she confirmed it.

For ATL-CVG-SLC-SFO RT, 'A' fare:
cost: $591.60
MQM : 11796

not bad at all.

To answer two questions raised here:

MIA-FCO-MIA on a deeply discounted fare is 5185 MQMs. From there, add on 750 MQMs for a r/t tro any other Italian city. You get 5935 MQMs. Double that to get the miles (almost the 12,000 I mentioned.)

Now, if you will excuse me. It is after midnight here. I am in a hotel in Tel Aviv. My UIG (Used Italian Girlfriend) is upstairs furious at me for fooling around on the computer intead of fooling around with her.

In fact, I am fairly well furious at myself!
