Good God! And I thought the skymiles rules were complicated. Thanks for the info ... I think?

So this is the "boarding priority" in "the airline will deny boarding to other persons in accordance with its particular boarding priority?"

Very cool... thanks!

Here is how to read the document:

This is a ranking of how to board or upgrade passengers, both revenue passengers like us or non-revs like DL employees, other airline employees or travel agents.

First number is the rank.
Second letters are the code like HKFR
Third ignore.. does not matter to us
Fourth.. explains who that person is.

For example, a PM on a discount fare ranks 12th to upgrade. Meaning there are 11 other categories of passengers ahead of you who will qualify for the upgrade.

This should hopefully help you understand why you did/did not get the upgrade or did not get on that flight. I know this is very complicated, but email me back and I will try my best to explain it

Thanks for the info although, as other posters have stated, itís hard to decipher. What I did find most interesting was that the upgrade priority: EP/PM/GM/MM/FO doesnít change until you get further down the priority list. MMís...with evidently no status....trump FOís until later in the process. The EP dudes/dudesses are king throughout the process. As was stated in other threads, this level is rare and unattainable by mere mortals.

Actually, remember that MM's - at least until this past year - have lifetime Silver Medallion Status, so the hierachy is correct, both based on that the fact that they are at least Silver Medallion, but also have the MM status.

I completely understand this document (of course I used to work for DL 10 years ago or more). Thanks for sharing.

Now if I could only be a EP/MM.

Good point...that explains the apparent discrepancy. A MM without current status is essentially a FO on steroids.

HKFR RS SAME AS HKF ONLY EP/PM/GM/MM/FO

I'm not going to even pretend I understand this. Does HKFR, RS and HKF mean anything? What's an EP?

Thanks...

Edited to add: well I do understand the "SAME AS", "ONLY", and the "PM/GM/MM/FO".

Apparently, there are exceptions, as I was once on an ATL-BOS flight (booked through Priceline, so no FF# on Res.). There was an earlier flight that I wanted to standby for, and my original flight was HEAVILY overbooked, according to gate agent. Earlier flight had a standby list at least 20 ppl long, including several PMs as seen on their carryon bag tags.

Somehow I bypassed everyone as the only standby cleared, and I was cleared into first.

There are exceptions to this boarding, priority, evidently.

Actually, most of this appears easy to read. I would start with #2 first. That makes #1 easier to understand. Ignore the RS part, and the code right after the number is just that, the code.

Seems to make good sense.

Does the HKF, HKFR and HKCR mean anything? This is like a cryptogram.... maybe when I get a few letters, I'll get the whole thing.

thanks!

An EP is an Executive Platinum Medallion. Itís a level that you canít reach through normal means. DL bestows this rank on a very few folks who either spend mega $$$Ďs through their companies or who are influential CEOís, run the travel department at some major corporations or are just general bigwigs.
AFAIK, there are not many EPís and certainly not enough to tilt the upgrade balance on a given flight. I doubt most folks have even been on a flight with an EP.
