Is this a valid DL award routing?

Hello...

On September 20th my CU Buffs will be playing the FSU Seminoles in TLH...with my dad in Florida it was thought that it might be a nifty idea to go travel to TLH to watch the game...however, in investigating possible flights for this, I came across a snag...when I plugged this into Delta.com, the only routing that came up that allows me to not miss any classes on Friday yet still make it to TLH in time for the game is as follows:

Sept 19th:
DL 1073 DEN-SLC
DL 418 SLC-ATL
Sept 20th:
DL 809 ATL-TLH

The fare for this was too expensive but my dad has enough Skymiles for an award ticket...

The return flight is of no factor as I have all of Sunday to make that happen...my question is...obviously DEN-SLC-ATL-TLH is not the most direct routing between DEN-TLH...would we be allowed to redeem Skymiles for the DEN-SLC-ATL-TLH routing???

Thanks,

Yes. Even if they would not allow this on a direct routing, they do allow one stopover.

You must book with an agent. If they have availability on the flights you want, then you simply are having a "stopover" in ATL on the way there - even if it is a very short stopover.

A stopover is defined as a departure greater than four hours after the scheduled arrival of the previous flight. However, on "overnight" flights like this, there is usually a provision for a connection without it being a stopover. However, you just don't need that defination, as you are allowed a stopover anyway.

Hope the flights are available and that it works out.

I should point out/clarify that the SLC-ATL segment is a redeye flight...here are the flights with the times listed...

Sept 19th:
DL 1073 DEN-SLC 7:25-8:47PM
DL 418 SLC-ATL 11:50PM-5:20AM (Sept 20th)
Sept 20th:
DL 809 ATL-TLH 8:39AM-9:47AM

Im guessing its still a valid routing?

Thanks again,

Should be fine - just call and check availability now.

Why not just take DL 1444 DEN-ATL 12.40AM-5.29AM on Sept 20, connecting to the same DL 809?

You can also "mix and match" CO or NW segments which may help you if you are trying to do award travel.

Have you checked NW using DL points for a DEN-MEM-TLH routing?

NW's times dont really work for me...DL seems the best choice schedule wise...
