Non-union employees offered 60 day unpaid leaves

{excerpt}
"It's to try to work through this window of soft demand," said Delta spokesman John Kennedy, adding that the airline doesn't have a goal for how many employees it hopes will sign up for leaves.

Delta told employees that it will continue paying for its portion of insurance coverage, and employees will keep their flight privileges during the leaves, which begin April 1. Delta said employees will have until March 25 to request a leave.

1. I hope the employees that take it don't find that they are the first to be furloughed at the end of the leave period.

2. Watch all the pilots go for it and nobody else.

3. If there are no takers, when do the layoffs start?

4. No mention of us regarding the "window of soft demand" (great corporate speak)

There should be lots of non-reving going on!

Aren't the pilots ineligible as being unionized?

Non-revving out to become more challenging as the domestic insULT upgrades kick in May 1st.

yknot: pilots are unionized. This is for non-unionized employees.

I give Delta credit for trying to find ways to avoid layoffs.

I criticize them for not investigating further the origin of their bookings falloff. If it is indeed partly due to frequent flyer concerns, its depth and length are being underestimated.

Perhaps, but the leaves begin April 1.

My point was that the LUser upgrades kick in halfway through the 60-day leave period. Guess they'll have to go overseas for May - without meals of course due to same-day catering rules.
