Air France Business Class in Europe

I just returned from a trip to europe in business elite over to europe on Delta metal and while in Europe took four flights on Air France and thought that their First/Business class was a JOKE only regular seats with NO person sitting in the middle seat! Oh I forgot we got a shot of Orange juice prior to takeoff as well.....not to mention that you board like a calvery and get no special boarding even though you pay a premium for the ticket....Just a warning for anyone thinking of spending extra money to go up front on Air France via Delta....

That configuration is pretty typical for intra-Europe flights. Not just AF.

Same seats, almost the same food, usually the middle seat is empty - but not always! C class are allowed to board LAST - that's considered a privilege! so they don't have to look at the Ys. But they do get a hot towel, and they do get to use the lounge, and they only have to pay say $1,000 for a longish flight 1-way where you can usually find a $250 economy ticket round trip! if you book a couple of weeks ahead. You get around the lounge problem through www.prioritypass.com except at CDG where there isn't one in the AF/DL concourse. So fly Y when you can.

I guess you mean discounted coach as the difference between full-fare coach and full-fare business class is minimal.

What you get on European airlines for full fare coach is being able to change flights on the airline. What you get for full fare business class is being able to switch airlines in addition to flights.

The major exception to the above rule is the Alitalia MD80 fleet used for intra-Europe (but not domestic Italian) flights. 2x2 in J class, comparable to US domestic F/C with much better food and wine.

The AZ A320/321s offer slightly wider seats in J - but only for those seated on the left-hand side of the aircraft. Right-hand side is identical to Y, and one can still be assigned a middle seat.

This is fer **** sure, Tex. Nice spend of only (I think) 30K miles to get an open jaw IST-FCO, FCO-LHR in first. Exactly as described above. With the cost of intra-Euro travel, 40-60K would be worth it for coach, so the 30K for first was sweet, or dolce as it were.

AF business does suck, with the "empty middle seat" - though contrary to other threads, the connecting there is doable.

By the way, don't use word **** because D it will A come up M as N ****.
