Extending PM benefits past 2/28 for future flights
 

I am moving down from PM to GM after 2/28.

Say I book a flight now for July, 2003 and get upgraded at time of booking like I normally would.

What will my boarding pass say when I take the flight in July? PM/CRC?

I guess the analogy is that when you progress during the year from FO-GM-PM, my experience has been that the elite status stored for a reservation is whatever is was at the time of the reservation (unless you call into have your SM # re-entered.

As long as your upgrade is confirmed before your status degrades, it really wouldn't matter what your BP says... the difference between GM and PM at that point is nil.

My guess, though, is that it would say PM.

I went from PM to GM 00/01. I booked several flights while PM in 00 for travel in 01. I was able to upgrade the flights (V or X) when I booked them in 00. The boarding passes all said PM on them (even tho I was GM when the BPs were issued).

The miles for the trips ultimately posted as Gold Medallion miles on my statement (but that didn't matter, it's 100% bonus either way).

I also had this work against me in 99. I ticketed a flight when I was Silver, moved up to GM prior to the flight - but my BP said Silver. I was on a Y fare and had requested a V upgrade. I pointed out that I was now GM and they assured me GM was the status I had in the system. I didn't clear, but I saw another fellow talking to the gate agent next to me, his ticket was in K and his BP said GM, and they said his V upgrade cleared. I was GM in Y and he was GM in K - both on the airport list standby list. In that case, my upgrade should have cleared over his (same status, higher fare class). However, it seemed that the status at time of booking still was associated with me for that flight. I didn't make any fuss about it with the gate agent.

(It's also possible that the other pax went from GM to PM between the time when he purchased the ticket and the actual flight.)

My advice would be to book as many flights as you reasonably can before 2/28.
