Okay, Delta is running a sale right now for CLT-PHX/LAX/LAS/SFO/SEA/etc. for $417 in YDLUPTN which upgrades to A/D class when booked, here are the full rules:

Here's my question ... my company sends folks on trips to Phoenix a lot, if we were to book a couple of these for each person for future dates, could we just change the dates without penalty and additional fare when we know the right dates for the trips? I thought we could, but the language of the fare rules would seem to say otherwise ...

You can do that without paying change fees, but you will have to pay the fare increase if you change the date later (presumably this sale isn't permanent). The relevant part of the rule is "... RESULTING IN A HIGHER FARE MUST BE ADD COLLECTED AT THE TIME OF REISSUE ..."
Assuming this is fully refundable (I didn't locate the wording), just guess at the dates, and if you guessed wrong, get a refund or take the relatively cheap trip anyway.

If you want to change the ticket before flying, you can do it without penalty - but the fares avaiable on the day you change the ticket count - and my bet would be that this nice fare won't be there anymore, so you will be hit with the additional collection.

Here's my question ... my company sends folks on trips to Phoenix a lot, if we were to book a couple of these for each person for future dates, could we just change the dates without penalty and additional fare when we know the right dates for the trips? I thought we could, but the language of the fare rules would seem to say otherwise ...

This fare is just trying to kick US Air in the chops. Of course, you would have to pay any applicable fare increase for the eventual dates of your travel, if any.

What I think is ludicrous is that DL had to use a 1000 words to say what it could have in 20. Dumb. No wonder Beckles was confused.

Yeah, these are great fares for business trips (where we usually pay a lot more!) and okay for leisure travel when you consider it's paid first class ... I booked two for leisure trips actually ...

jimrpa, make sure you have "unrestricted" unchecked. I found many of the $400 LAX-CLT fares for CLT, but not in other area airports that are closer to where I want to go next month (RIC).

These fares are from DL and US going at each other ... US is offering them out of CVG and ATL and DL is offering them out of CLT and PIT to a bunch of West Coast cities including LAX, SFO, SEA, PHX, and LAS ...
